i think its a good idea but wouldnt it turn into something like this?

Two versions of timer already exists in SuperTux.
The first one is the "Target Time" which can be set in the "Level properties". A level will only shown as completed perfectly when the level is finished faster than this (and you collected all coins, defeated all badguys and found all secrets).
The second one is the "Level Time". If this timer runs out, Tux will be killed. As far as I know, this cannot be set in the In-game Editor, instead it must be added directly to the level file.

Just tested it. If you mean a timer like in SuperTux 1, it's still there. It's just difficult to add to a level.

Yep, the level timer is there as Bonus Island 1 contrib level pack makes use of the timer. Would like to have it settable in the level editor itself though - it'd be cool for race challenges.

Shipping it with 0.0.6 isn't a good idea. A two player mode should come
along with custom defineable keys for example.
Furthermore the code is in a state, where we have to fix bugs and get
new features stable to be able to release a new version.

What was the name of that little penguin that was supposed to be Tux's sidekick or something? I think it was something like "Puff"?

Maybe the other players could be custom like for example you could add hats to the characters like a fedora.

Maybe there should be a limit to the number of players... 2 or 4?

Hexley, the mascot of DarwinOS is a good one as well.

Hexley has two abilities:

1. He can use his pitchfork as a sword.

2. He can charge attack by pressing the action key four times.

there is also Lenny the penguin, the mascot of Lubuntu. He is somewhat shorter than tux.

Lenny is a bit bouncy because he is fat.
Lenny can Bounce higher by holding jump.
Lenny can break bricks by bouncing on top of them under his weight.

Duke is also good, too.

Duke is faster than tux.
He can jump high.
And finally, duke is lightwheight when walking on unstable tiles, but when he is holding something, The unstable tile breaks.

Bad effects "without telling the other player" don't really work with split screen. But there should be a somewhat unlagged (e.g. locally predicted like most MP games do) online mode too (but maybe later).

Nevertheless I have some suggestions for harm:

- Blocks falling down from above the player (requires level to be open)
- Power up question blocks disappear or become coin blocks
- Player jumps all the time
- Left/right controls swapped
- Flowers become poisonous and shrink Tux again (could break some levels)

All these effects would come with a timer of course.
