Google Code In 2010-2011

Postby sfb » 22 Nov 2010, 17:28

Google Code-In for 2010-2011 started today! GCI is a contest for 13-18 year old students where they are awarded $100 for each 3 tasks complete up to a maximum of $500 (15 tasks.) Completion of more tasks or more difficult tasks earns you points towards a grand prize of a paid trip to Google's Moutain View headquarters. There are 20 participating organizations. Of these 20 projects only 2 organizations (3 projects) were chosen from the free gaming community. WorldForge (which includes the Ryzom Core project) and Battle for Wesnoth.

Please show your support by claiming and working on a task (if you are an eligible contestant) or spreading the word to 13-18 year olds who may be interested in working on projects like this. You can see that the tasks have been influenced by the duration of the contest and the need for participants to complete 15 tasks for the full cash prize.

Take a look at WorldForge's news, Ryzom Core's news and announcement, and Battle for Wesnoth's wiki page.

It is not /entirely/ true that no other free gaming projects were selected. The Gluon project exists under the KDE umbrella, and as such we of course are a part of that organisation :) So, i can add that to the list as well : search for the gluon tag, for Gluon specific tasks, or just search for game as there are some kde-games projects as well :)

leinir,

That's great to hear. KDE is such a big umbrella - do you know if there are other major game projects from kde-games listing tasks?
