Solution found on Win 8. (Yes it was easy)
By simply enabling the "Advanced pipeline", STK works as advertised, even with no other of the additional effects displayed below. Without, the tracks and cars do not display at all.

Thanks for the anwser, but I still don't get it...
issues/1804 => looks related the the credit file, my print screen is the starting screen... I can't read anything nor see anything... All graphics are like lost.

Solution found on Win 8. (Yes it was easy)
By simply enabling the "Advanced pipeline",

I'm on Win 7, and I don't know how to get the graffics settings, since I don't see anything...

[Solved] starting screen with boxes no gaphics

Solved by upgradind OpenGL Drivers, but crashes at starting a track with graphics settings at their max

Hello once again
I just recognised that the colors seems very dark in 0.8.2. Is that supposed to be? Karts look now very strange and the colors of the textures look totally different ingame.
Especially darker colors are totally black. I'm just updating two karts of mine to 0.8.2 and purple is now dark blue...

Wont run on Arch 64bit w/ ATI Radeon 4XXX card

The game fails to start. I have another version installed from the repo. The credits say it is version SVN. That works fine

I use the open source drivers, as I have previously not had the need to use the official driver (which is no longer supported for this card anyway)

Hi, unfortunately it's very hard to tell why, but you seem to have driver issues or be too old, "X Error: GLXBadFBConfig" means that your system was unable to create an OpenGL window with the minimum STK requirements (sadly it doesn't say why)

It looks like problem with linux package (someone before reported the same problem). You can try to remove "libstdc++.so.6", "libz.so.1" or "libgcc_s.so.1" from "./lib-64" directory. Maybe your drivers need newer versions of these libraries. I'd be glad if you can check which one causes issues (if any).

removing "libz.so.1" or "libgcc_s.so.1" didnt make any difference
Removing "libstdc++.so.6" at least got the game started:
...no nitro trail visible
..muffin explosions stutter /slow down computer
...graphics failed after about 5 races. I could see mouse cursor moving and sound continued but clicking anything didnt work. CTL-ALT-F1 didnt work either. Had to do hard shutdown. After this happened 3 times I decided not to try any more

No crash. Some problems on newer tracks. I ran a grand prix with 26 tracks I used in version7. Most were top speed. Some were slightly slower, where the tracks have been amended like spaceship or mansion. The new tracks, Gran paradiso island and Cocoa temple are at about 1/2 speed.

use high def textures ok
texture compression off, otherwise white glare
animated chars available for all
texture filtering anisotropic x8
weather effects ok
animated scenery ok


motion blur activated ok
depth of field activated ok
glow (outlines) ok but dont like it, so turned off
anti aliasing added ok
ambient occlusion added slows game by about 1/2 so switched off again
global illumination slows race by about 1/3 so turned off again
bloom added ok
light shaft activated ok
turned shadows to high ok

Thanks for your answer. I will probably remove this library in next package to avoid problems (or find a way to use it only if not found in system).

Your other issues are on graphics side (atm. hard to say clearly if it's something wrong in STK or in graphics drivers). I didn't notice anything obvious in your logs. You can try to use proprietary drivers instead of mesa.

Tracks Grand Paradiso and Cocoa Temple are much slower because there are much more objects.

supertuxkart crashes when I try to Ctrl+V paste my password into the online log-in form on Arch Linux. It also killed my terminal for which I have filed a bug on the GNOME bugzilla.

supertuxkart crashing the terminal apparently was a GTK bug that has been fixed. No problem here.

No, don't disregard it. After some discussion, it appears that supertuxkart or one of its libraries uses an obsolete X11 method; see the discussion on the GTK bugzilla https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=743115. I don't have the time to take a closer look at the moment.

I would really like to try out. Unfortunately I'm using a windows machine with an ATI graphics card, and for that combinaton the current beta the 3D engine doesn't show any textures. Is there going to be a beta where this problem has been fixed?

@penguin2233 You probably won't be able to play on this graphics card :( IIRC this is Intel 945 graphics card which uses even older drivers than Intel 965 and it has only OpenGL 1.4 support. Correct me if I'm wrong. You can look at "glxinfo | grep Open" output.

Edit:
You should disable DRI3 to avoid these messages:
libGL error: Version 4 or later of flush extension not found
libGL error: failed to load driver: i915

This can be done by setting environment variable:
export LIBGL_DRI3_DISABLE=1
or by compile newest xserver-xorg-video-intel drivers without DRI3 support.

@deve I have compiled it and it does startup but says I need drivers. Intel HAS released drivers but when I run them I get a distribution not supported because they haven't released 14.10 drivers. you can view it at: https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads

git checkout 2.99.917
./autogen.sh
./configure --prefix=/usr --disable-dri3
make
make install


You can create .deb file using for example "checkinstall" package.

You probably need to have enabled "deb-src" repository to install dependencies. In /etc/apt/sources.list it should be for example:
deb-src http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ utopic main restricted universe multiverse

Or if you don't want to compile it, you can simply try to add this line:
export LIBGL_DRI3_DISABLE=1
to file in your home directory
/home/youruser/.xsessionrc

I've tried to run the beta release via terminal for testing, but there are several problems with bad lighting color, black alpha transparent, choppy frame rate, objects and sprites are randomly flashing, shaking and invisible (except for a fan, a magic carpet and tires), and randomly crashes.
