3/4 player Character Selection + Look Behind.

Hi,

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas - I like the wee santa hats on the characters*. :cool:

I'd just like to suggest that the character selection screen be improved as currently it is unclear who is controlling which coloured box - with 3/4 people connected, it is always a matter of people saying 'Which one am I?' etc. The highlight starts at the top, but once it goes to the bottom [see screenshot] people just forget which they were [because character colour isn't used later in the game] or never really noticed what they were doing, its unclear who controls which coloured box. It might be better if the colour remained somewhere at the top also so they know which is theirs. Or, I almost think having 4 separate boxes for the players would be better as the next problem is that when the race begins - people don't know which screen to look at and frustration/hilarity ensues. :D

Thanks for the great game! I've had much fun with it over the last couple of years or so!

EDIT: Oh another thing I wanted to mention - look behind when doing 3/4 player split-screen isn't very useful as it looks much too close to the player's own kart to allow them to see who is behind or aim the plunger or bowling ball.

Edit2: *fyi - sometimes the Santa hats float behind the characters' heads.

good idea, I have created a ticket : https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/super ... icket/1139

Regarding "look back", I hear you but there's probably little to do for now - we will likely focus on implementing networked gameplay and then the issue of the viewport being too small should go away ;)

Hmm what about having the area with player names be coloured with player colour when not in focus? So in this case it would look something like the attached screenshot. (Yeah I know the recoloring is bad - it's a mockup. Final version should preserve the gradient in my opinion.)
When the player name is in focus, we can use the current orange colour gradient.

I understand & look forward to network play, hopefully 2-player per PC on a home network will be possible? STK works very well as a fun sociable game I think so having >1 player on a machine is good, although 3 or 4 on a screen is a bit cramped admittedly on my 1280x1024 screen.
