fictional location

fictional location

Hello everyone :)

I need your help and your imagination.

Imagine names for fictional location. They have to be credible. For instance "alma perdida" is perfect for a location in Mexico or in the Nevada desert. But not appropriate for a city in china.

They have to be original. You cannot take them from the real location. Also of course don't use a name already used in a movie/story/etc.

Here is a list of location needed.
A ranch in the great plains in usa and or Canada.

A remote location in usa in a forest

A small village in tundra in Russia.
A megapole in South West Asia and a remote location in Himalaya (Shangrila)

A small mountain village in Switzerland.

A farm in the desert Mexico/Nevada

An oil rig in northern Atlantic

A village in Egypt.

A location in the coast of main (usa).

A city similar to las Vegas or macao with casinos hotels etc.

That's it for the moment.

Please don't try to associate these locations with tracks. I need these names you will know how i will use these names when everything will be ready.

Also these names won't be used for the upcoming 0.8.1. Of course it's for the next graphical guidelines.

I know it's not what you asked for, but on a similar topic, would we also be able to suggest better names for tracks that need them?

Suggestions are always welcome, no permission needed. ;)
On the other hand, we are of course free to not follow suggestions as well (speaks for itself - everyone can't get their own pet names all the time, we can only have as many names as there are tracks).

I think I'll go do it on the Track Ideas thread, it'll make a little more sense there.

Wow great some names are amazing.

A ranch in the great plains in usa and or Canada: Ranch St Margarita

This doesn't fit with the theme. This name would be for hacienda or something similar

A remote location in usa in a forest: Jerico Plains

Plains is usually not a forest ;). But why not, Jerico Forest

A small village in tundra in Russia: Tushka

I love it.

A megapole in South West Asia: Malampoor

That sounds strange, maybe the poor at the end.

A small mountain village in Switzerland: Le Petit Jean or Der Kleine Johannes

My initial idea was Berglydorf (the village of the small mountain)

An oil rig in northern Atlantic: Danton's Basin

I love it :).

A location in the coast of main: New Whitburn

This one too is cool

A city similar to las Vegas or macao with casinos hotels etc: Las Dunas City or simply Las Dunas

Welcome to fabulous las dunas, hahaha yeah that is great

This idea is great but I propose to rename Overworld too. Maybe it should be changed to a fictional region. :)

I like the names too :)
One note: I would prefer names that do not need to be translated, so that it would be easier for people to identify which tracks people are referring too, when speaking on the forum for example.

I disagree, there are many Spanish names in the USA. Los Angeles, Cupertino, San Francisco, Las Vegas...
That's a cool name.

Jerico Natural Park?

Does it mean something?

Cool name, sounds Indonesian to me, not weird at all.

"Le Petit XXX" always sounds SO stereotypical, it's actually what Japanese people tend to put in front of everything to sound French, I don't like it :p (I'm French, for the record).
Samuncle, I suppose the name you give could be one of a village in Switzerland, as you're from there? :)

No opinion on this one...

samuncle {l Wrote}:

What do you mean by "coast of main"? Or do you mean "Maine"?

Agreed :) Remembers me of the GTA cities (Vice City...)

On Overworld, I think we should find a justification for the place, more than just a name. I mean, some scenaristic reason that there is a place where there are portals to several places in the world where we need to fight Evil Nolok.
Who created those portals? Is it Gnu, using some magic, for helping Tux to rescue him...?

Note that normally the world 'overworld' is never used in game and is only an internal name. I think it's never named in-game

Maybe, maybe not; if someone has an idea that is simple and works, why not. I don't need we need to strive for a coherent plot however, STK remains a simple game and not really story-driven

That's a cool name.

Only in location which were previously mexican/under spanish possession (check it if you wish).
And great plains were never mexican.
Also, this name really doesn't evoke great plains and needed names here should evoke what they refeer to.

Maybe spell Malampoor Malampur?

The y in berglydorf looks weird to a German speaker. How about Bergdörfchen (little mountain village)? Or Steilpass? (steep pass)

I like Steilpass. Sounds like a rendering effect. :D

I think you failed to read between the lines. This is basically what samuncle asked for, but rather than present the existing track names he instead presented the setting for the tracks he wants name ideas for.

Nope these names AREN'T for track names. They are for fictional location in game. For instance in road sign or in train timetable. They aren't related to the name of the track or the challenge associated with the track.

Example: In a track named Golden Palace in a casino you will see a billboard with: Welcome to fabulous Las Dunas.
