new/better sounds

Postby chronomaster » 06 Nov 2013, 09:34

i dont know the proceadures exactly of implementing it
in game,
so i arranged for a two samples arrangement (one
for starting the sqeeking and one that is endlessly
repeatable)
and also a regular sample of 14 seconds of
squeeking (with the start point).

hi,

thanks, but I think we can very clearly hear it loop - usually it is preferable for sounds to loop without so easy to spot repeating patterns. Also, our currently skidding sound is not too bad, I am unsure it's worth it to try to replace it?

we?
thats you.
and that didnt answered my questions about sound in-game and how shuold they be.
and not replacing. adding to the exsisting one. game could randomly choose between the two samples.

i have seen the repo for the sounds, and some are not that good i think. but i skiped the skidding sound. so i didnt know it actually sounds better. actually i saw a video with tuxarts and it said the sound was disabled because it doesnt have good sounds.
so im trying to see what can be added to the current one.

here is some horn samples

Regarding "is a 1mb ogg file is ok?", well it's too large, but don't worry too much about that, because we compress all sounds in ogg vorbis, meaning they size will be reduced a lot without audible loss of quality.

Regarding the horns samples, they are interesting. Did you find them on the internet?

yes.
i cant remember where though.
and i highly edited them and such.
i recommand not using only one sound for each action. (as many as possible)
one can always cycle between them for more joy and fun of the game

Unfortunately, due to copyright laws and all, we really cannot use sounds that we do not know where they come from. A good idea is to start on websites featuring freely reusable ( many good ones are listed here : http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/Lic ... find_files ) and note down from where the sound comes from. This is annoying yes, but given that we are a free game and cannot affrod to buy sound banks, we need to do this
