Awesome upcoming space-shooters with linux ports:

Enemy Starfighter: http://enemystarfighter.com/

Vids:

Awesome Homeworld2 style, cant wait to play!

Wings of Saint Nazaire: http://www.wingsofstnazaire.com
Vid: http://youtu.be/lTcHSGn2h1s

Really cool modernized 2.5D style.

Sadly both are closed source, but one thing really stands out: both use rather simple graphics, but put a lot of JUICE (http://freegamer.blogspot.com/2012/05/d ... -game.html ) into it, thus making the game feel awesome. Which I guess is the story most FOSS games still have to learn (e.g. it's not about the normal-maps or the advanced antialising, but the cool and efficient use of artist made SFX, e.g. JUICE that make a game cool).

Wings of Saint Nazaire looks amazing. I wonder if games with pre-rendered sprites will be making a comeback. I'm pretty sure they modelled all the ships in a 3D program, then used a script to output pictures of high-res renders. This is similar to what the open source Unknown Horizons does to produce its isometric graphics.

As a Wing Commander I/II junkie, then Privateer, as a kid... I love how Wingsof St Nazaire is coming along.

As an aside, Howard Day is an amazingly productive artist who was once contributing to a WC-inspired fan project which didn't see the light of day. (Probably not aided by the "community" that inhabits the CIC forums - never before or since have I encountered such toxic moderators.)

And VR support for ES confirmed: http://youtu.be/oSKeseN4uJk

Technically it would be probably easy for Wings of Saint Nazaire to support it too (since it uses Unity3D) but I doubt the 2D HUDs will work well with VRs.

I guess I will really have to buy a Occulus and a new PC next year...
