Very first kart

Very first kart

Postby Totoplus62 » 18 Jul 2013, 22:46

This is the beginning of my very first kart (And in fact my first real 3D object that is not a bottle or a chair ^^) i just made it look smooth :)

It comes from a very very small draw i made Image

I just have one question: Do i have to start UV mapping (that I also have to learn ) before placing objects such as steering wheel ?

I think i will create Frogato character for this one.

i think not, you can add some parts, and for the first-kart version you could use a simple color as a texture, you don't need a special uv-layout

and when you add wheels, you can use some from another kart, they are unwrapped

Nice work :-)

One small note: from the screenshot it seems that you are using Blender 2.63. That is maybe too old for the exporter scripts, that are needed to put your model into STK. These usually only work with the latest versions. I'm using 2.67 now, and that one works.

I went into the Frogatto IRC channel and asked them for permission, since their artwork is non-free, and they were totally fine with this, and I also got a helpful tip:

"i'd think they'd definitely want to separate frogatto's head's halves for the model. that zig-zag seam is kinda his most iconic feature."

Keep up the good work. :)

Cool car!

On your draw there is something I like that you can change on the model: the angle in the middle of the windscreen.

Anyway, I'm sure it will rock

Really ? so the latest version isn't free...
Anyway it come from open source software

I was experimentating with UV now i see how it really works. When the kart would be finished it could also be used for other current karts if people want (With other colors :) )

The engine is still Open Source, although the game assets are not.
