SuperTuxKart 0.7 alpha 2 release

High score problems and suggestions

Postby RyanLeiTaiwan » 15 May 2010, 04:40

highscore.xml does not write on my Mac in revision r5428~r5438 (Release configuration).
I have reported this bug in the tracker:
highscore.xml can display but fails to write when I did break the record.
The file is located at ~/Library/Application Support/supertuxkart:

-rw-r--r--@ 1 ryanlei staff 137 5 11 12:58 challenges.xml
-rw-r--r--@ 1 ryanlei staff 2919 5 11 12:58 config.xml
-rw-r--r--@ 1 ryanlei staff 5362 5 11 12:58 highscore.xml
-rw-r--r-- 1 ryanlei staff 778 5 5 00:46 input.xml

Or is there something wrong with my settings that causes this writing failure??

I have also suggested that high scores be displayed dynamically when selecting number of laps, because STK rank the scores of the same settings on:
track name, number of karts, difficulty, race type, number of laps, etc.

Highscores updating when selection number of laps is implemented and should work;

as for highscores not being saved, I still haven't had time to investigate (I have lots to do and little free time)

Highscores updating does work, but there is one bug I found that STK forgets to reset highscores with respect to default # of laps, when the user enter the lap selection for the second time.
See my youtube video annotations for such a reproduction.

P.S. gettext 0.18 was released about a week ago. I installed it via Macports, and compiling STK now reports only 55 warnings. Previously there were 100+. :p
P.S.2. And with gettext 0.18 and latest STK source, the startup crash occurs less frequently now. :)

Thank you, auria, hiker, and many others, for your precious time!

I had bugs when finishing, too:
Almost all times, it crashed immediatly or after some time in which the game freezes,
one time there was no finish, the loops weren't shown any more, and I think I could have driven forever without finishing. (this was on the garden track)
one :!: time of all the times I played, it was displayed correctly :!:

Edit: It works fine when I play as "Expert", but when I choose the easiest difficulty, it crashes.
Edit 2: On "Intermediate", It works, too.

Can I do the translation into German?
I get strange mixes like
"Fahranfänger-Intermediate-Expert"

Hi Evolution,

see our launchpad page, where you can work on STK translations through a web interface : https://translations.launchpad.net/stk
Instructions for translating STK with launchpad should come soon, but meanwhile you can probably figure it out by yourself :)

RyanLeiTaiwan {l Wrote}:Here's all my configurations:

Screen Resolution: 1024x768
Player: non-guest
Game keys config: left, right, up, down, space, F, D, S, A
Menu keys config: up, down, left, right, return, backspace
Kart: Tux
# of AI karts: 7, Expert level
Game mode: Normal Race
Track: Around the Lighthouse.

Playing like this 10 or 10+ times causes the previous hang.

I have tried a few times to reproduce this, but no success so far. I am just wondering if this is still an issue for you (considering that a number of changes went in since the report).

Thanks!

I've done some translations with the launchpad and poEdit now. But how can I force STK to start in German? When I try the command "setLANGUAGE=de_DE " and after that the path of STK, Windows just says that "setLANGUAGE" was an unknown command. When I try it the other way round, STK writes something (e.g. that a dozen tracks are missing) and a few commands, without any for setting the language.

You need a space between "set" and "LANGUAGE"

I gave a try with this version.

[*] Changing resolution made the entire system unstable. I can go from windowed screen to full screen, but not the opposite. (But it's an alpha version, so I can't really complain)
[*] Performance is drastically A LOT WORSE than v0.6.2 with the same resolution. Compiled binaries of v0.6 in Ubuntu repositories: about 45-60 FPS. This version compiled on my own computer: about 6 FPS. Right. (Blame it on alpha status?)
[*] First circuit, running into my first item => crash (Alpha status?)

My computer: Athlon XP 2200+, 2GB of RAM, NVidia GeForce 6200 with 512MB of RAM (using proprietary drivers), Ubuntu 10.04, playing with 1360*768 resolution, fullscreen.

Hi 240-185,

about changing resolution, I believe it should work in 0.7 alpha 2.
But if the entire system became unstable, it would be a system bug and not a STK bug :/

about performance, Joerg did much performance improvements to trunk, so next release will be better in that respect.

About the powerup bug, I think it happened if you race after changing resolution. This has been fixed in trunk.

In fact, I don't believe the system came unstable, but rather unresponsive. After I changed the resolution in order to go into windowed mode, the screen came black with just the mouse pointer, then switched back to the former resolution, but then the keyboard is totally ignored. As there isn't any Ctrl-Alt-Del in Ubuntu, the only solution is to hard reboot my computer. Thank god Ubuntu boots very fast.

Anyway, I'll check that "trunk" version.

There's an issue with Highscores: Image
As you can see the last one is 2:33:100 instead of 2:34:00.

And I've translated nearly all STK to italian, so I'd like to test it in game :)

Can you check with the highscore.xml file to give us the actual time. My first suspicion would be that the time is actually 2.33:996 or so, and not 2.33:0.

Thanks!

I get this simply starting STK. I compile it using this pkgbuild: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/super ... n/PKGBUILD
I've also tried to remove all "sed" and other modification from pkgbuild, but the result is the same.

You're right, it's 997.

I've made some proof and the revision 5500 is ok, from revision 5501 had started problems with icons and written.
Here's screens of rev 5501:

The situation was better than now, though.

Ah, that was the introduction of fribidi :( but that's weird because in r5501 fribidi support was disabled.

Is your locale set to a right-to-left language? Or maybe tell me which language this is, then I can try myself
