Exhaust particles?

Exhaust particles?

Postby RaceAce » 01 Feb 2013, 14:12

An idea I had is to put particle emitters in kart exhaust pipes and when you used/got a zipper, nitro, skidding or drafting boost, particles (flames) would come out of the pipes. This would only be on certain karts, those with exhaust pipes (Tux, Beagle, Mr Iceblock, Mozilla, etc) but it would add some more visual excitement. I don't know if you could just put a point on the end of the pipe where the particles should come out.

That's planned, but we don't have time or/and devs :). It's always the same problem.

It's now done. I improved the particle system and you can add two empty to specify where are exhausts.

If you want you are welcome to try to change the particles.xml to improve the effect :).

I have also changed the position of skidding particles. They appears under the wheels now.

I have updated the wiki.

You are welcome to adapt your karts to the new system :)

Totoplus62 I think you are the author of our zipper particle effect. So if you want you can try to change nitro.xml and nitro-smocke.xml to make a better effect.

Ok I will keep this in the mind :) but i just have to wait for my computer to be repair because with the current one STK is too much laggy to make correct tests.
Otherwise I know there is nitro.xml but i did not notice nitro-smoke.xml

It's a part of the new effect. Now you have a blue flame and smoke around :).

Auria added a new option for particles, x-increase-factor and y-increase-factor.

Another little improvement. Now each items that explode has it's own explosion.

explosion_bomb.xml and explosion_cake.xml. ATM they are still the same.

I have also found SPARK a better particle engine that looks impressive and compatible with irrlicht.

Technically it's possible (everything is possible ^^). But IMHO the nitro effect must be the same. However an custom animation for each karts when they use nitro can be fun for the player.

I have added a small effect when the player jump :). It produces a small cloud. When my new particle system will be ready I will try to make a shock wave.

The nitro-effect should be a bit better with this imho :) (New xml files).

EDIT: The jump (Jump.ogg) sound has to be reduced to 0.5 this sound is too loud compared to the others.

Note that i also made a ticket for Nitro engine sound.

Edit: I have also made a particle effect for simple skidding boost: Currently when you press skidding key, there are sparkles but when you have finished to press the skidding key: you have the boost effect and the sparks still there during this boost effect.
This new particle should be played like this: you have finished to press the skidding key -> Sparks disapear -> Skidding boost particle

Then the Nitro particle should have the priority regarding Skidding boost particle. (The Two effects should not be played at the same time)

Here is the file (so you can test by substituting Nitro effect with Boost effect)
