Object-collection from different tracks

Object-collection from different tracks

Postby rubberduck » 30 May 2013, 14:34

i started to make a object-collection from different tracks
if you want to make or improve a track, you can look here and take some parts (copied from other tracks) for this

i will add more objects, also a lot of plants and trees, there are also LOD-objects

Hi,

yes, using objects libraries would be an interesting mid-term goal for track-making. One of the things our current track making scheme lacks compared to more professional tool is asset management, this can certainly be improved in the future with some custom blender scripts

for example this here: http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/68144

but before i can add this one, i have to clean it (like remove doubles or delete hidden faces)

Wow this sounds good.

Have you already though of a way how to structure/gorup the objects in a good way?
Probably ...
by theme (space, western, jungle, farm, city, ..)
by size
by its physical properties (static, movable, animated)

Are you going to make your project public?

I'm not convinced by putting the name "Tux" everywhere. It's not very original and creative.

I have add nolok industries in old mine maybe we can found better name for fake company ingame.

i uploaded the first verion of this oc

http://platen-software.de/sebastian/stk ... -v1.tar.gz

it's an "arena", so you need debug-mode to start drive in the game

in blender the objects have all names like zengarden_bridge, so you know, that this object is from zengarden

models from opengameart have a name like oga_name, from blendswap.com have bs_name, and self-modelled r_name

i also have included the textures and i have a file(not ready), that lists up used textures for every model (the newest models are missing in the list) and licenses

later i will add a license file for textures

if you add some objects and when you add some more objects, that use the same textures, you get something like this

001-data.png
001-data.png (12.06 KiB) Viewed 14776 times

i found out, that this make the blend-file very big

to solve that, you need to do some things in your track

1: select an object with a double-used texture
2: select one face with (name.001) and do "select similiar" and select "image"
3: if "fakeuser" is enabled, disable it
4:use the right texture
5:save and re-open the file, it could be, that you have do do this step twice to remove the other textures

I have made yesterday several tests for an "asset management system".

The idea is to have a common object library (with LOD, AO map, etc). You can link objects from the library to your track. When we update an object in the library it's automatically updated in all track.

Currently I was able to link an object from a .blend to another .blend and I made a "proxy" to be able to change is orientation/rotation/etc.
The main problem is when an object has stk custom parameter and you update these parameter in the librairy they won't change in the other blend file.

The exporter needs to be updated. I have created a ticket :).

it should be possible to make parts local, also a good idea is to make textures local, but not the mesh (if possible)

a "menu" like this would be good:

make lokal:
- all (makes all local)
- textures (you can use other textures on the mesh, but when updating the mesh on oc-file, your mesh updates too)
- Object Properties (for example LOD model or LOD instance)

and there should be something, where you can replace an existing object in track with an object from the oc (useful for objects, that have issues, like the grass in the overworld viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4611)

last days i added some more objects, there are some objects i have added, where i have to do something like clearing up

i have some more objects, they are textured now, but names aren't good and there are some other small things (i have to add them to the object-list objects.odt)
