Cars can only run backwards

Cars can only run backwards

Postby epeedk » 07 Apr 2013, 07:31

Hi

I am having problems running supertuxkart on Ubuntu 12.10. The game start fine, but the car will not move forward. Going backwards works just fine. I have the problem both with the version supplied with 12.10, and with the downloaded 0.8 64bit version. I have also tried to change the keys, but nothing helps.

Anyone got any hint about how to solve this? My 5 years daugther wants this solved NOW!!! please.

Regards
Michael

well, I had a similar problem once. It turned out that STK detected the internal accelerometer sensor inside my laptop as a JoyStick. (didn't know my laptop had one :-) so i went to options and selected the keyboard as the controller for the main player and problem was solved!
I hope this helps

Toams is right, except that what you must do is not "select keyboard" but rather "disable accelerometer". If a device is listed in the options that shouldn't be used for STK, just double-click on it and click "disable"

Maybe people could tell us which name is reported for this device, maybe then we can automatically ignore it...

ok thanks. I guess we need to collect some stats to know if it's the same name for everyone. If someone else who had the same issue can comment, your help is welcome

Same here about the same accelerometer, I disabled it (a year ago) and it just works fine.

Auria, I can collect the stats you need, if you tell me how.

It could be great to play with the accelerometer and turn the laptop to drive... and BOOOOM 1000€ on the floor :D

I don't need very advanced "stats", just the exact name of the device please :) (the name shown in the options screen)

By same accelerometer I mean it is the ST LIS3LV02DL as Toams ;)

Sorry if it wasn't clear enough.
For information, I'm running a hp probook 6465b with liano A6-3410MX and LinuxMint 14 (nadia).

So finally I came around to check this. I have no way to test if it actually works since I don't have this accelerometer on my computer, but I committed a change that will attempt to ignore such devices when they exist
