Keeping items

Keeping items

Postby E-Dragon » 11 Mar 2013, 21:45

Hello,
Something I don´t like is that you instantly lose your item, when getting the next one, so if you want to keep an item you need to avoid getting new ones. :|
I´d prefer to either keep your item even if you drove into an itembox, or something else that you can use in order to keep an item (like a second item screen, where you can see the item, you want to keep)
Switching may be complicated, but I guess this can be solved by using another button or so.

What do you think about this idea ?

There are actually settings you can configure. Open the STK Config file in an editor, scroll down until you find "item collection mode". This can be set as "same", "only-if-same" and "new-item". The default setting is "new-item", which is what you have. "Only-if-same" gives you another of the same item only if that's what you would get from the present anyway. "Same" will give you one or three more of the item you currently have (This is what you want).

Wow, didn't know about that. I know this decision is done by design, to add some gameplay element ("avoid items if you want to keep yours"), but I still would prefer a "same" mode by default. I find that too frustrating, maybe I'm too used to other games that work this way. Just my opinion :)

Thanks, I didn´t know that.
This is really cool to be able to make your own settings only by changing a bit in the config file.
I though this had to be implemented directly, or something like this.
This game still surprises me all the time.

Yes, originally we implemented it. And while we have settled for what we think is best (which of course can be discussed), we left the option in for people to change it to their liking. We don't make those settings accessible in the GUI to avoid overloading it with too many features, and also (e.g. for comparing highscores etc) we have to identify one set of values each user should be using.

Cheers,
