Getting on Desura

Getting on Desura

A conversation with the David from Desura. Would the developers be okay with something like this or would you rather there just be a link to donate to the project? I do like the idea of Tux saving/improving real people's lives by defeating the evil Nolok.

support@desura.com {l Wrote}:Hey the game looks solid I assume this would be a free title?

antoine {l Wrote}: Yes, it would definitely be free.

An interesting idea might be to ask for an optional donation that goes directly to the Electronic Freedom Fund or Kiva. Kiva is a nonprofit that gives small loans with low or no interest to people in need all over the world. The loans have a 99% repayment rate, so then the money gets reinvested in new projects. http://www.kiva.org/

What do you think about a Desura Kiva team?

support@desura.com {l Wrote}:Well we have no official support for a donation system over the client and website. When you handle peoples money it gets sticky really quick. I will ask around and see what is what but chances are slim for anything like that. It is a good idea though. We can do free though all we need is a profile that meets our minimum media requirements a download link from your homepage and you just need to bring over any blog posts you make to your Desura profile. http://www.desura.com/development if you can agree to those terms we can host your content.

antoine {l Wrote}:Maybe there could link to Kiva with a Desura Team name. I could also email Kiva directly and ask questions.

Concerning the game, I will make a profile with the media. Thanks for your fast replies.

Hi,

thanks for your interest in helping STK be more visible. I would like to ask for one thing though : please refrain from discussing donations in our name without asking us first. The idea of sending STK discussions to funds is an idea that should be approved by the core developers before you tell other websites that we want to do that.

Otherwise, it would be cool to get STK in there, if it's not too much additional work for us :)

Ok, no problem I will abide that request. It's your project not mine. It just popped into my mind and I thought was it would lead to even positive feelings towards STK and promote the project and Kiva. Desura can't provide that service anyway. Would have been a good headline, "How the Linux Mascot's Game is Improving Lives in Developing Nations."

If anyone of the team members (those sporting fresh banners) have Desura or want to get a Desura account, I will add you to the member page in your respective roles (i.e. leaders, level designers, etc).

The Desura application only allows linux uploads from the Linux version of Desura. So if someone is running Linux, let me know and I'll add you to the group so you can make and upload the files. I will work on at least the windows files.
