I personnaly think (and it is easier in this way) that, the characters should make « vocalizes » and not speak with a real langage, Nolok has to be the only who can do this (it increases the « evil » aspect of Nolok) IMHO.

Different voices:
-2 for hitting someone
-1 when overtaking someone
-2 when someone or something hit you
-1 for :« zipper » acceleration and skid boost (only level 2 of skidding)
-1 for winning race
-1 for losing race

Total per character : 8 voices

« Locked » characters : Emule, Pidgin, Suzanne, Wilber, Nolok, Beastie

Yes real voices would be a bit to much (if you look at the chat window, nearly every second there is new entry :/). But a "wohoooo" or "hurray" would ok, of course :)

As most are animals, some sounds would be easy. But maybe in the case of the open movie characters, you might try to embedd real movie voices to be more authentic?

I don't think " real animal calls" could be a good idea; but it could funny to look for people who are able to make nice voices

If we use speech, it will be difficult to localize, because then we would need to find voice actors for all the languages.

Speech doesn't have to be understood. It can have implicit meaning.

Sorry, I meant words or sentences. Of course grunts etc. would work fine.

Still, simple words like "Oh no!" can be understood implicitly by tone of voice. Grunts and other non-intelligible voice sfx requires voice artistry on a higher level than what I believe we can achieve.

General SFX knowledge is completely different from voice acting.

Fun, I like them. Did you make them yourself? Please always think of specifying a license when proposing data files.

it is free to use.aura has already updated me on the 'need to have "free" license' subject.
lets just say you should credit my username. :)
... besides, no point in descussing license before someone likes it.

not bad :) no promise but this might come of use. Here is what I propose : maybe you can select a license for your work, and then we can start building a 'voice database'. This is longer-term work of course, it will be difficult to add any voices until we have a complete set for all characters, but we can still start collecting audio files

No, the game is split among multiple licenses that are compatible.
You really should give your licenses, even before someone likes it. It makes things easier for everybody. Maybe someone will like it long after and we can't contact you anymore...
Just say "CC-by-SA" everytime you create something yourself and that's all :)

unfortunately no, we can't afford to have a single license, since we grab free stuff from the internet which are released under a bunch of various licenses.

So thanks, I've added your little set to our media repository for eventual use in the future (meanwhile, if you want to make the set a bit more complete, as suggested by a previous post, that may help).

its not a question of if i want. but WHEN.
any forum participating/ideas/suggestions on how should each character should sound may help adress their distinction.

Player hero can talk!
How about when player hero hits the victim by bowling ball, sound.
Then player hero says - "Strike!".
