SuperTuxKart 0.8 RC 1 released

Re: SuperTuxKart 0.8 RC 1 released

Bugs/opinions on the first challenge:

-First track is very small when playing with around 14 players it can get a really tight.
-On the Third level the ball seems to run over the tunnels.
-Don't know if this is related to the difficulty level (hard) but sometimes the computer seems to run faster without explanation?
-On the last level sometimes when you die you respawn twice

thanks

Could you refer to them by their track name please?

First track: Oliver's Math Class? Yes it is really tight but it's supposed to be. And you don't have to play it with so many. It's quite fun with 3 AIs.

In story mode on the overworld map, there is no engine sound. Is this intended?

ChemBroTron, I guess we could look to fix that, there is no good reason for the sound to be missing

While I would be the first one to admit that there might be some problems with the ball algorithm, this particular track has a design problem: a ball started at the outside section will likely miss the tunnel entrance and as a result jump on top of the tunnel.

-Don't know if this is related to the difficulty level (hard) but sometimes the computer seems to run faster without explanation?

On lower level there is some 'rubber banding' - the AI drives slower than a normal kart, but if it's too far behind, it will drive faster (up to normal speed for karts). Or what you are seeing is slipstream?

You are talking of being rescued, and then after being set down, getting rescued again? We really need to know the name of the track, since we don't know in which order you are playing them. I tried to reproduce this, but as a non-admin user I can't even install a program.

And another bug: I created a new player, went to Overworld, played the Math Class on the easiest level. Did not succeed in the challenge, but made a high score, credited to my username. Then I went to Farm track challenge, which I also didn't succeed. I did make a high score though, which was credited to "Guest" instead of the username.

I've just tried to reproduce this, but it all works for me. Can you still reproduce this problem (with rc1) and a clean installation (i.e. rename %AppData%/supertuxkart; see if you can reproduce the problem; and tell us how ;) Then remove the newly created supertuxkart directory, and rename your old one back). Could you also post (or email) the .xml files from the above supertuxkart directory?

Thanks!

Small bug (?): I tried to change some config settings, (setting gum to 10 hits and present collection mode: same) but the settings were not applied in-game even though I saved them and checked several times. (OS is Windows XP) Any ideas?

Was STK running at the same time as you made your saves?

Did your choice editor say anything about "Document being outdated - do you wish to accept changes" or something like that?

You need two users on your system, one admin, one normal. When you install with the notmal user, Windows Access Control pops up and asks you for the password for the admin account. Currently, the shortcuts end up in

C:\Users\<admin user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

A fix would be to put them instead into:

C:\Users\All Users\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

I can still reproduce this. The test user I had added still apears though although I did the rename and a deinstall + new install. Here's the console output:

As before, I started the game, created a new user, then played Oliver's Math Class and then Bovine Barnyard, accessed from overworld. It's correct in OMC but wrong in BB.

That's what I did - but I admit I didn't try any further once I was asked for admin privileges. I'll try again.

The config files did the trick - I found the problem and auria fixed it ;)

A fix would be to put them instead into:

C:\Users\All Users\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs.

Confirmed - I guess since the installer is running as admin, the admin user gets the link.

The disadvantage of installing for all-users is that if you do this as non-admin users (after entering the admin password) and install the files locally (i.e. in your home directory), then other users will see the link, but won't be able to use them (permission denied). Still, that might be a better solution than what we have atm ;) Done.

Thanks for the report!

Hello thanks for you reply

The challenge i am speeking of is Penguin Playground:

"On lower level there is some 'rubber banding' - the AI drives slower than a normal kart, but if it's too far behind, it will drive faster (up to normal speed for karts). Or what you are seeing is slipstream?"

I don't know how to explain it but sometimes the computer doesn't have anyone around but it's capable of out running withou using nitrous ou staying behing a player...

I level i was referring was Scotland

I would also like to request a feature if possible to run the challenges but with the reverse option if possible...

Thank you again for this fun game.

I am not really sure what could happen. Can you easily reproduce the issue, ideally with only one or two AI opponents? After you see this happening, press F10. This will create a file called history.dat. Compress it(!), and post it here or email it to me, and I can have a look.

We really need a screenshot to see where this happens.

Making better use of the reverse mode is something for upcoming releases (either by making some challenges driven in reverse, or offer the whole set of challenges in reverse mode, or adding some new challenges I can't say yet).

Thank you again for this fun game.

Thanks, glad that you like it.

Issue:
When using a lot of karts i seem to get a massive lag at times it is easily reproducible and consistent and I have seen as low as 1fps. When using stk 0.8.0 i get a 59-61 FPS at all times under the same settings. If i pause the game the resume it my fps go back up to 60 I used kazam to record a race, sadly the recording is rather large at 1.8GB but here is the file (rar archive split in half, contains a mp4 made using kazam)
when the FPS drops
1. http://www.filedropper.com/screencast20 ... 18mp4part1
2. http://www.filedropper.com/screencast20 ... 18mp4part2

pay attention to the frame rate on the game, recording the game had no
effect on the frame rate

I noticed in my terminal when this happened there were a lot of these
[warn ] MusicOgg: Music not playing when it should be. Source state: 4116
also done this on alpine-2 (occurred several times back to back) and Scotland just a couple times but not to the same extremes 1st was at the end of lap 2
the recording has a 100% preproduction rate

Not sure if a history.dat is useful but here is one (not from the recorded run)
http://www.filedropper.com/historydattar (.tar.lzma archive)

System Specs:

* Xubuntu 13.10 64bit with the 3.12.1 mainline kernel
* nvidia driver 331.20 (from xorg edgers ppa, *not* using the Xorg package from that repo just the nvidia packages)
* GPU is a 1GB GTX 550 TI @ 1GHz (using a hdmi cable) (benchmarks - http://i.imgur.com/phkwsrP.png)
* CPU is a Phenom II x4 965 @ 3.7GHz
* RAM is 12GB DDR3 1600
* Monitor is a 1080p TV (single display)

Hi,

I see no obvious reason why 0.8.1 would be slower than 0.8. Could you try reduce the graphics level detail in 0.8.1 to see if it yields any improvement?
