sorry, I didn't quite mean it that way, I just thought that some tracks that were getting new music, I thought that the current music was just fine, I didn't listen to the new music much, and I Didn't say anything earlier when I should of........ Sorry, your music is actually really nice.

Woah this is getting a little wild here, please folks let's not let this topic degenerate!!

Charlie, I appreciate your input, but sorry the SNES style is definitely not what we are aiming for here

ctdabomb, I agree that the song we currently have for the STK menu is awesome. So why are we trying to replace it? Because its license is unclear. It was originally posted on a website as being free music, then removed from there, and we have never been able to confirm from the author of the song that our current song is actually free to use. So we suspect that some kid had posted this song without having the permission to the free music website, and that this has tricked us into using it illegally. So we would really like to replace it

Bollen, I am sorry that you are getting so much input that goes in so many directions. The main menu song is especially tricky since it's such an important song for a game. The song you produced is good but still not completely there for a menu song. I will decide if you think the latter part of the song can or cannot be seperated from the start, I know piecing things together can be difficult. However at least I think this gives you a good idea if the direction in which to go I think - more like the second part than like the first part. (video game music is often written to be loopable, so I don't personnally think that in this context it's a bad thing to change at which point of the song is the start. but I will let you decide). Also I may clarify that I don't think the music should be "not celebratory at all". It can be a little, just not as much as the previous attempt

Personally, I think something a bit more sped-up or "happy" than this one would be nice, but at the same time not as much as the first attempt. Something in-between, if that is possible?

Please keep up the good work; sorry for being so vague but even as a hobby musician I find it hard to describe what could be better. :)

Bollen {l Wrote}:There's no need to be patronising Charlie.

I apologise. It was not intended to come across as patronizing. I was not implying you were not a professional (you obviously are, your work is very good) but rather nodding in the direction of the original game that inspired us all. By "professionals", I was not meaning to suggest you were not capable, but rather hattip the guys who are the genuine experts at this - the original MK authors - and their chosen approach(es).

Here is a piece I've composed. It contains what I want in the menu music. Maybe if it were a bit less classical but this is what I could do.

This is a sample. I am not saying I want it to be used (though I would be delighted if it were). Bollen's music is better.

Hero I think your music is not for a karting game, but a battle or strategy game (in my opinion).
What software did you use for your music ?

THIS IS A SAMPLE. I AM NOT SAYING I WANT IT TO BE USED (though I would be delighted if it were). BOLLEN'S MUSIC IS BETTER.

Usually in forums or IRC, avoid writing in all caps. It can be disturbing when you read a text and it means that you are shouting.

Hi, just a quick note: I'm having a lot of computer problems so it's taking me a bit longer than expected. Should be solved shortly...

Thank you for your patience.

Maybe a bit faster, slightly higher pitched and with a deeper drum and I think it would be perfect. Good work. I like it.

Excellent!

Congratulations, this is very good :) Once the final mix is ready this will be excellent (the mix is already quite good, the main issue I think is that drums are getting drowned a little).

Nice work!

Very good!

If I had 1 criticism, it's that I'm not too sure what part of of it I'd whistle to; perhaps around the 1:30 min onwards with the trumpets, there's a bit of a catchy segment. It would be nice for that to be a bit more continuous somehow (no constructive idea on how to accomplish that though).

I'm not sure making it faster/higher/bassy (as Hero suggested) would be an improvement. Sounds very well pitched already to me. Perhaps that's Hero alluding to the lack of an obvious catchy theme in there.

I was thinking about the feel. It felt like... racing in slow motion.

Higher pitched just to get it to... feel right. I'm sorry but describing music is like a taste. I can do it in colours (we think I may have Synesthesia). I want it to be red or pink instead of light purple.

But it's not a track for racing to, so that's missing the point? It is for the menu. It greets the player, it accompanies the player between races.

Wow! What great feedback.... Well thank you everyone and specially to the developers for their patience. I'll start the whole production tomorrow and hopefully have it finished by the end of the week.

PS: Higher pitch wouldn't work as the guitar pattern relies on open strings and the trumpet is squeezing the highest possible notes. So if the pitch goes up, the arrangement has to come down. Thus it would sound more dull. Tempo is as fast as it'll go, any faster and the melodies don't work, nor does the groove... And it sounds silly... Believe me I tried it.

Really solid, professional piece there - I Likes!
As other said, nothing to whistle to, but thats good, because the player won't spend much time on the menus.
The first 18 seconds (and other bits like them) are very catchy, though. :)
