Let's talk about teamkilling

Teammate damage reflection... would make an intersting mutator. Then again I haven't run into anybody yet who intentionally teamkills, so my opinion might change on this. What would it be called? Retaliating? Retributive? Requiting? I like the idea, just not as something that can't be turned on/off. I would be just fine with a score system tweak. Maybe also increase your respawn time for TKing? My opinion isn't the only one that matters, though, so feel free to ignore me completely. :)
I lost the game.

As a fairly new player, I read this thread and did so through the search because as a new player, I have a couple of issues with team killing, actually, I would anyway new or not but will further explain...

I for one do not hold it against anyone for me getting fragged by a team member, I understand it's just a GAME, I do NOT get mad, it doesn't bother me. That said, it does bother me knowing people have to apologize every time this happens and that I have to apologize back when I do it. Common courtesy, sure but in game it's a bit of an annoyance. Then you have those who are getting mad at people who accidentally kill their team mates and act as if they committed a crime. This doesn't help in either the team doing well together or the game in general.

Now, I do want to say, if you kill me in a team match, you do not have to apologize, I'm fine with it.

I understand team kill can be fun, you have to be far more accurate, however as today, I was in a small area and my team kept running in front of me, taking away most shots I could have had or at least, not without hitting them. Sure, it goes back to the statement of how people should learn from those mistakes but the truth is, many just get mad or so I've seen and personally I don't like pulling my shots in a crowded area, it's not just being accurate, it's taking away some fun "in certain instances."

That said, again, just a noob opinion here but would putting a team kill on or off in the voting section be a decent alternative for smaller maps?

I understand you can't make everyone tolerant of team kills, some will just get mad no matter what. Don't get me wrong, it's not a huge issue but thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.

Honestly, it's been a great game so far and I've enjoyed every aspect of it and most of the players. While others brag about having a friendly base of players and community, so far, this has been my best gaming experience with players over the years.

A mutator for this purpose would just add to the already-extensive-mess that is the voting system. While I agree it is annoying, apologising is as easy as pressing V twice and clicking North-North-East of the center. When someone team kills me a few times, I will admit it annoys me, but apologising goes a long way to making me feel better about it (it promotes friendliness, and lets the other guy know "yes, I fucked up, I didn't mean it and I'm sorry").

I agree that apologizing does go a long way. Getting fragged while apologizing is sometimes a downfall of it but then again, the talk bubbles are not very bright "another matter altogether". If the system works then it works ;) I didn't know about pressing the V, will use that in game and try it. I suppose apologizing can just as much show you give a damn as much as accidentally fragging someone shows you screwed up, and believe me, I have killed my share of team mates lol. So yes, good point, it does make me feel better about it as well.

I'm not sure I see the voting system as a mess really and sort of like "It's different" but then again, I am new and perhaps there's something I'm not seeing with it "yet".

Key bindings are quite flexible, so you don't even have to use the voice compass, you can do pretty much anything you want by pressing or releasing a single key or button.

The voting mechanics are fine, what people make of it can be a "mess", and there have been some (off-)topics about the issue. (Maybe Quin also implies the user interface, which is apparently difficult to maintain and improve. Still I think he did a great job making it as clean as possible.)

I'll just say I do think the UI is great, be it hard to maintain or not, great job in my opinion.

Team kill apologies be damned, the game and UI is still awesome. ;)
