New Music

Ah yes! Not a worry, they'll come up better in the final mix. The piece already has a taiko drum, barely audible but it's there, and also has some congas, pandeiros and talking drums. The drum kit plays a very similar pattern as the one mentioned by Krobonil, but since the piece is much faster and there's other stuff going on, it's not so obvious. Trust me, it'll sound good at the end.

So I repeat my question: What would you like me to work on next?

hmm you already have 2 songs waiting for their final mix, I would tend to say mixing them is more important than starting work on something else ;)

OK, well let me explain. All the music I've written so far is written on paper and then put on a notation program. The performance you hear is that of this software performing the score. In general, when a project has been approved, I convert everything to MIDI and I fine tune the performance and convert all to audio. Then I mix and master. In general I prefer to do this procedure in one go because it is very time consuming otherwise. Plus for me is a different mindset and finally, it is something I can only do in the daytime (it is not possible to mix reliably with headphones). But writing I can do at night on my time off...

So, if you want me to write some more, I would prefer to continue with writing. However, if that's all you need from me then I will do the final mix....

Hope you understand.

Hi,

I certainly understand. The songs you made were the ones we needed most. Maybe a new song for the underwater track could be nice, the one we have at this time is pretty but a little repetitive?

Some nice ambient music for the upcoming overworld would be cool. Actually, Auria, I am thinking about if it would be easy to have a rather long piece of music for the overworld and fadeout + pause it between races, so unless you go back to the main menu it fades in and continues where you left off after a challenge. That would get rid of the problem with only hearing the first 20 seconds of the music over and over again.

As for me, initial music theme in main menu is quite boring, no, not boring, just too repetitive. Probably we could have 2 tracks for main menu instead of one?

not sure if it's bad, but one thing I remember now, its license is quite unclear, so indeed a new original song for the menu would be good too I guess

Not too unclear; what's unclear is the original creator's intent, so while we have the benefit of doubt it won't hurt to get something tailored to STK anyway. :)

Sorry, I've been very ill (stupid flu) so haven't done anything yet. I have a bit of work to catch up with and then I'll get on it. I do have a couple of inquiries though:

1.- When you say underwater, do you mean Subsea or Subsea classic?
2.- Do you want the same kind of style or something completely different?
3.- (unrelated) I have a track in my game called Terabite which doesn't work and I can't uninstall it because it doesn't show up in the add-ons any more. Is there a folder where these are contained?

Thanks!

Hi,

1) "Subsea", 'subsea classic' is not part of STK anymore
2) I guess it would be sort of similar? I am not sure what underwater music can sound like
3) hmm it should appear in the menu still :( but where to remove it manually will depend on your OS. On linux it's ~/.local/share/supertuxkart, on OSX it's under ~/Library/Application Support/supertuxkart, and I'm not sure about windows by try %APPDATA%/supertuxkart (you can enter that in the Explorer and it will take you there)

Hello community! Had a bit of time today and I wrote this for subsea track. This is how I imagine underwater music sounds like.... Heh, heh, heh!

It's not fully finished yet, but I wanted to get your opinions before proceeding. I'd like to make it a bit longer (subsea is over 2 mins long even when playing only two laps) and I need to think about how to loop it better... Anyway, looking forward to your comments!

Dammit, you bet me to it!

But I like it, I think it a really good piece of music! It could probably do with a majestic-sounding instrument somewhere like a harp or flute, or an angelic choir in the background. I really like where the synths come in at 0:45, too.
Awesome work! :D

Thank you OzoneOne! It's actually supposed to be a guitar at 0:45... Well at least the main theme and the counterpoint is a vibes with a synth in unison. Hope the rest of the community likes it too! I think I know which part I'd like to extend and I've also found a solution for the loop.... But I'll await the response before putting any more time into it...

I think the mood is on the right track :) I would change is probably add a little more melody, at this time it's quite an ambient music. And contrarily to Ozone, I an personnally not convinced by the synths at 0:45, I think they may not sound "majestic" enough to really fit with the soft background?

As usual I welcome more opinions from other people

I really like the subsea piece. I think it would go better with the old subsea (which I prefer), but thats not a musical issue...

OK, here's a re-work of the last piece. Slightly longer to fit the at least two laps. Also a lot more melody as suggested. I also like the original piece however, you said the music should have race feel which that piece does not. Hence why I'm writing this... No?

I agree about the old one fitting better and it should be that way for the new one. And Bollen, yours doesn't really fit too. It doesn't really have that under the sea feel.

Well subsea is usually associated with quietness and beauty, combining that with racing can be a difficult task. I think for this one we could relax the racing feeling a little

I think this take is a step in the right direction, though maybe I would convert some of the melody to piano, flute, harp? I also think the melody that starts after about 1 minute is not quite majestic enough to suit subsea.

Also, I think this "bubbles" melody may be used a little too much

I think this, along with also the previous music for subsea track, is a good idea of approximately how I think it should sound : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RV2qiy1z ... age#t=239s
(probably with higher tempo and probably still the percussions though)

The music from that video you posted really does fit with the track, but like you said the track should have higher tempo.

I think using instruments similar to the ones used in the first half of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EH4PzAfj1A might sound quite good. Especially the harp and flute used at the very beginning.

Yeah, that first 20 seconds so is what is needed for the subsea track. Afterwards, it starts to sound like it doesn't fit.

Well I really like my piece so I think I rather write something else and keep it for a different purpose. It was also the first time I've written electronic stuff and it's had great reviews on my end, so I rather not change it.

Thanks for the feedback, I've been thinking about it for the past few days and I have another idea I'd like to try before going down the "mainstream" route. I realize now that most of you are thinking subsea track as some kind of The Big Blue soundtrack.... Majestic, calm but with a beat, yes! I get it. But since nobody said anything at the beginning I just wrote what playing the track made me feel... I didn't get majestic from it at all....

Are there any plans to make the new subsea shorter? Is seems far to long and boring..
