I need some help

Postby RaceAce » 22 Jul 2012, 18:39

I am wondering, where can I download Blender and the STK panel? I can't seem to find either. Could someone post links to those for me?

Also, I was wondering if you can copy an existing track, modify it and give the modified version a new name so that you wouldn't have to make a new track totally from scratch? For instance, I want to make a battle arena that uses a lot of objects from the Bovine Barnyard track. Would it be possible for me to copy Bovine Barnyard, change it to an arena, change the track/items/objects and save it as, say, Barnyard Battle?

One more thing, is it possible to make a loop-de-loop? I don't know if the physics would allow it. What about if I made it a tight loop that had all zippers, would it work then? I want to make a rollercoaster track with loops if possible.

I have lots of ideas for tracks, arenas and karts, and I hope to be able to make several.

Viva STK!

Yes, yes, yes and yes. :D

Yes, see http://blender.org and http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/Ins ... he_tools_2

Yes; as long as what you copy has a license which allows it. For all STK assets, this is already the case, so copy as much as you want, but try to keep track of where you got it from and the license so you can reference it in the license file of your creation.

One more thing, is it possible to make a loop-de-loop? I don't know if the physics would allow it. What about if I made it a tight loop that had all zippers, would it work then? I want to make a rollercoaster track with loops if possible.

Yes, this should be possible, as long as the track is smooth enough and the karts get enough speed, which as you suspected zippers will help with. Keep in mind though that the camera will still follow the kart like before, so people won't see where they are headed in a loop-de-loop, so it's best to avoid curves or baddies right afterwards since players won't have an easy way to anticipate them beforehand.

Yes!

Also, how do you post a picture in a forum? How do I get the picture URL?

Click on "Post a reply" (under the quick reply button, on the left) and if you see an image you like on a website, right click on it and select "Copy image link" or similar. Then paste it into your post, mark the link and select the "Img" button in the post editor. Tadaa! :)

What if I want to post a file that I have on my computer? Do I have to post it on a website and then put in on the forum?

You could do that, or eventually just upload it as an attachment. See "Upload attachment" in the editor.

I'm not sure how to make custom grand prix's, can somebody help? All the grand prix files say 1KB, but I can't open or edit the files. How do I go about making my own?

http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/Making_challenges might this help? if not search on the rest of the wiki, I am pretty sure it says somewhere.

sure you can open them, they are just text files. I don't know on what OS you are, but all systems have text editors. On windows, Notepad++ is often used a replacement to poor old 'Notepad'

Ah! I got it now. Windows XP uses Wordpad. Also, is 6 the maximum number of Grand Prix's you can have?

No I don't think there is any maximum. Of course if there are too many you will need to scroll to see the others

Hmm, I tried to make this GP but it didn't work:

<supertuxkart_grand_prix name="Space N Lava">

<track id="startrack" laps="3" />
<track id="xr591" laps="3" />
<track id="ExtremeDimension" laps="3" />
<track id="lava-castle" laps="3" />
<track id="classic-volcano" laps="3" />
<track id="fortmagma" laps="3" />

</supertuxkart_grand_prix>

I also tried making another GP also with Extreme Dimension in it, so maybe that is causing the problem? Any ideas?

I would suggest trying to run STK from terminal and see if any error message is printed?

The most likely cause would be a mispelled track name

Ah! It was because ExtremeDimension was capitalized. After I removed the capitals it worked. (Even though the file name has capitals.)

You need the track id, not the name (sometimes these can be quite different, but usually they are pretty consistent).
