Super Budget Brothers Review

Postby qreeves » 31 Aug 2012, 12:04

A website, Super Budget Brothers have recently reviewed Red Eclipse with a very favourable outcome. They discuss the pros and cons in a fair amount of depth, as well as the kind of gameplay they found extremely fun. I even added a new feature based on one of their peeves, in v1.3, all players will now be non-solid ghosts in time-trial!

You can listen to their podcast here: http://superbudgetbrothers.com/2012/08/20/red-eclipse/

Interesting, and what exactly does this mean?

It means you won't collide with them when trying to run around the map.

I think that's the first time I ever had the patience to actually listen to a pod cast review. Overall, I think they raise some good points and give a fair review, even though it is a pity they don't mention the awesomeness of the cube2 engines editing capabilities. And their con about the graphics ("feels much like UT2004") would make up a big compliment for quite a few open source games.

Concerning collision detection in time trial, I second this change, as players could not only block each other, but also gain more height by jumping on someone.

I just listened to the podcast, and it's quite true. You really deserve the praise you get. Yet again, thank you for caring so much for your community, this time by implementing this ghost feature for time-trial. I hope 1.3 will become as popular as it deserves to be.

Can you still attack people using fist, though? It's a nice feature IMO, adds some fun.

Yes, I agree. It is almost impossible now'a'days to find a mainstream developer with the same care for their community.

BTW reeves are you still searching for a name for 1.3? Perhaps we can use some latin or something, it always looks pretty cool.

How about ... (-throws something random out there-)

English Latin
eternal aeternus eternus

The Eternal edition? "Eternus or Aeternus".

That is just something I randomly thought of at the moment.

I use this: http://www.freedict.com/onldict/onldict.php

In SNV src/engine/engine.h, line 16:
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
#define RE_RELEASE          "Galactic"
[/quote]

Yeah... that shows only less than 0% of integrity with community...

Wait, Quin isn't allowed to choose the codename for his own game? Or what are you trying to say?

Um... WTF? You're free to read the commit messages/diffs, and if you had asked, you probably would have received an answer. I mean, a codename isn't such groundbreaking news that it should be specially announced, is it?

Heh I was just trying to have some fun, not meaning to cause a ruckus.

If Galactic is it then that is what it should be, reeves can name it whatever he wants! I was just wonder if it Hadn't been named yet. :P

Just throwing some names into the name hat, that's all. :P

Wouldn't be surprised if Eternal has already been used, I only thought of it for a couple minutes if even that.

I believe it was me who originally suggested Galactic, I think it fits very well given the past name of Supernova and RE's spacey theme.
However if anyone else has ideas, of course feel free!

Just waiting for Quin to wake up and package it :)

Yeah heh I figured they had played in my server, I need to get back to "admining" it but I am stuck in the map editor! Hehe.

Maybe I'll get back to it I can have both open so no reason not to. :D
