Billboards for STK

Billboards for STK

Postby machrider14 » 21 Mar 2012, 18:12

I have provided a bunch of billboards that would be good for STK. I can't use the company logos from the open source software, so instead I will be happy to work on billboards that focuses on the SuperTux universe. Not all courses have billboards you know.

I'll show you some of the billboards what I did.

Example 1: Penguin Mart

And this is the billboard you have seen in Tux Tollway.

Example 2: Tuxel

Ask me if you want a billboard.

It's ok, but a real billboard for the STK series would have karts, smoke and lots of flames...

Actually, there's no need for one. These aren't from the open-source software companies.

You misunderstand it. Licenses are always important, it's not about companies and stuff, but about protection of the original author's rights. Some of the images you used I recall, and I'm fairly sure they are published under certain licenses. Did you read them and know that you can use them? And, do you know whether they are copyleft-licenses (such as CC-BY-SA)? In that case you did not even have the chance to say how you license it, but you had to put it under the license the original work was.
So, please be sure to check the original files for their licenses, and license your work accordingly.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, so what I wrote above could be incomplete/wrong.

EDIT:
I just checked the SuperTux icon you're using: All content (non-code) of SuperTux is released under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 according to their official repository page: https://code.google.com/p/supertux/
So, yes, as I understand it your derivative work needs to be released under that license as well.

that shouldn't be to hard if an image is from a game. just look in their licence file and if it is from a website there should be something about licenses....

Billboard Pack 1 available

Postby machrider14 » 03 Apr 2012, 16:21

I created the new billboard pack which is now available. Sorry there are 5 billboards, i'll make more soon. I also added a license for these billboards and their rightful owners. I edited the license already but I can't find the licenses for the iceblock icon and SuperTux icon. Download now.

the license should be something like this I think:
example.png by bill smith released under GPL

or if it contains a logo from a game:
example.jpg by Bill smith based on image by will smith released under CC0

try taking a look at the licenses for different tracks from STK and make them like that:
https://supertuxkart.svn.sourceforge.ne ... icense.txt
