The holy Kung Fu of the dauntless crosshair,
or the secret knowledge about the way to become a relentless master of Instagib

Yesterday I found an old mysterious book in the far away underground cellar of the internet,
far away from the usual pathes of the web. The author seems to be a strange old man, lying
in his die, the grandmaster Fu Chi Tsingtao Woo Quincho. This holy book is his legacy to
his followers. He wanted to keep his magical knowledge for the future generations.
I can only give the basics to you. It's up to you, to work hard and excercise enough to
become also a master and to follow the path of the dauntless crosshair. If you work hard
enough and no one can stop you to follow this path, you will be able to fragg everything
with highest precision in absolute perfection and by closed eyes.

The ten holy rules of Grandmaster Fu Chi Tsingtao Woo Quincho to become a real master

I. Anytime, each opponent will run through your crosschair by himself.

II. Find the correct moment.

III. The only thing you have to do, is to push the trigger.

IV. If the opponent doesn't want to run through your crosshair, and usually none opponent does
it, just assist a bit.

V. Use your legs.

VI. Let the Qui flow.

VII. Feel the Qui, use the Qui, control it.

IIX. Learn these Rules. So that you can speak them out while you are sleeping. Test it, but:

IX. Don't sleep while aiming.

X. Excercise each of the rules as often as you can.

After mastering this, you'll need no screen anymore. You'll become a raging berserk,
unstoppable and able to shoot an enemy directly in his left eye from a distance, more far
than 1000 miles. "Headshot", "Multikill", "Carnage", Bloodbath" or "massacre" will be your
secoundly business. The only opposing technique which could be dangerous for you, is the
blessed blast of the holy handgrenade. A meeting of two masters of these different
techniques has to end up in a maybe short, but very epic battle.

Only the chosen one becomes a real Grandmaster

After you have mastered the high school of the dauntless crosschair and if you are blessed with
enough talent, there is a very little chance, to become a real grandmaster. You will follow
the advanced pathes of the holy Instagib KungFu. You have to decide, which is your style of
fighting: there is the monkey-style, there is the style of the snake, the praying mantis,
the black jaguar, the scorpion, the tiger, the drunken man, the laughing child, the furious
wife, the one eyed laser, the little mecha godzilla, the raging braindead, ... and last but
not least the mighty dragon-style.
A real grandmaster fights with the magical technique of mindcontrol. He glides and teleports
over the battlefield in his energy shielded aura and beams mindcontrolled flashes of
lightning through his enemys. He doesn't needs any computers to fight in cyberspace.
In general it's not neccessary for him to fight.

Good luck ;)

Ah some Instagib tips :) how helpful considering it's the most popular mutator in the game. I like the story too. The first rule is right, when strafing out an opponent, he'll probably hit your crosshairs maybe 5 to 10 times. I've always preferred position over timing. See, if you can get the enemy in an uncomfortable or vulnerable position, you'll have no problem taking him down easily. This is where the "dancing" part of RE comes into play. You can only strafe one spot for a while before the enemy "locks" on to you. So best thing to do is to move around a bit, change your position. You can move closer for a 'Qui' kill or further away to get a nice scope in shot on him.

Personally, I'm better at shots up close, where most people would prefer a kick. I see it like this, enemies that are further away are smaller and most likely harder to hit, and the closer someone is, the bigger the they are is and the easier it is to take them down because their hitbox becomes bigger because they are so close. Of course if they're too close they'll just melee the crap out of you so you usually have to find a good distance.

Some good vulnerable positions to get the enemy into:
1. After they miss a melee attempt
2. When they're too busy trying to kill another person
3. When they're not moving (typekills don't count :P)
4. When they are falling in one direction

A lot of the pros pull off the number 4 very easily, and this is why they're vulnerable: because usually they jump up high using double jump (or power jump) and therefore can only move in one direction once they're up there (that direction would be DOWN). So you just have to place your crosshair in a position that they are about to move into and you can take out those jump-snipers pretty easily. Its like geometry :)

Kicking for dummies
By TheLastProject

1. Press Spacebar
2. Press Spacebar again
3. Press Q
Hit anyone? Success, go back to step 1.
Didn't hit anyone? Don't worry, it'll happen some time, go back to step 1.

But I guess your method works too.
Hats, Afros, wings and raptor feet. This game is showing progress indeed.

And now I understand why there is need for kung-fu when you have such an arsenal of weapons: Quincho tried to push the trigger... Maybe he would be better with guns when he tried to actuelly pull the trigger... :p

[offtopic] as for the above comment, what if some guns have push triggers in the future(assuming that is where/when red e takes place)? :) [/offtopic] My iGib strategy boils down to this: make a mad dash for the nearest grenade, cook, asplode a random guy, go back to step 1. I can't keep a steady aim when my gameplay style revolves around extreme mobility, and I can't ever land a kick. iGib isn't my favorite mut, hey, at least I don't ragequit, so there's a CHANCE that I might get better at it over time.
I lost the game.

LOL! Yeah nades are powerful gamechangers in the game of instagib :P And landing a kick in insta isn't super hard. If anything, it really comes down to how you combat the server latency. But otherwise, unless you plan on being king of melee, I wouldn't put too much time into the melee. I didn't like insta either when I first started playing RE (or Blood Frontier for that matter :P). But I came around to it and accepted it (because its the most popular mutator in the game lol). I suppose it takes time to get good at something, and who knows, maybe you'll end up being the best insta player ever! maybe.

I have always liked instagib in other games, but I never enjoyed it as much as in RE :) I wouldn't be happy if ALL servers would be playing instagib all the time without the chance to play a normal game, but I always fancy a good round of instagib!

crosshairs

Postby raiden » 15 Apr 2012, 20:13

For a real Instagib thread with hints and tricks, we could need some more crosshairs I thought. At first I made some for myself without the plan
to publish them. After testing them and seeing them fine, I thought why not share them with others. Maybe anybody could need it. So here they
are: 4 minimalistic crosshairs, especially for the Instaplayer.

some dots and circles

For those who doesn't know, what to do: simply unpack these files to your "Red Eclipse\data\crosshairs" - directory.
How to use them: just type "/crosshairtex crosshairs/circle-07" for example, in the game via the 't' - talkbutton and press "enter".
If you take a look into the crosshairfolder, you find also many already existing crosshairs, which you can also use.

The structure of crosshairfiles is easy to understand, so you are free to make your own stuff by a simple graffic program ;).
(edit: Although using Photoshop I highly recommend "Gimp", the very best freeware alternative I know. I have no problem, when You use my template for your own stuff, I allow that explicitly here.)

the filenames you can type for these ones:

circle-07
dot-03
dot-04
dot-05

How good these ones can help in the game depends from your taste, and the deeper settings you choose. I use for example a screen resolution of
1600x900 px with a crosshairsize of 0,06 and zoom crosshairsize of 0,025 and it works fine for me.

greetings

I have weapon specific crosshairs turned on. The default weapon specific rifle crosshair is a dot.
I lost the game.

*'Ty'* orbital :).
I realized that the commandline "/hitcrosshairtex "crosshairs/..."" won't work ? I wanted to use an own hitcrosshair, but RE says unknown command. Who knows what I did wrong ?
(consulted the RE wiki, but couldn't figure out my mistake)

I made again some custom crosshairs: 3 regular ones (venom-01,venom-02,venom-03), to combine with suitable zoom crosshair (venom-zoom) and the also suitable hitcrosshair (venom-01-hit).
Unpack them to your Red Eclipse/data/crosshairs/ -directory, and type the following in the game:
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
/crosshairtex crosshairs/venom-01   (.../venom-02../venom-03)
/hithairtex crosshairs/venom-01-hit
/zoomcrosshairtex crosshairs/venom-zoom

and you use the venom-crosshairpack. You can combine each of the 3 main crosshairs with the zoom and hit one.

(If you want to set back to default, you should type the commands without a path behind them and RE shows the actual setting. Do it before using the command with the new crosshairs and you can write them down, to set back the defaults later. Otherwise you have to find them out by yourself or find new combinatins, finally the crosshairfolder allows very much nice combinations.)

By a screenresolution of 1600x900 px I use the following ui settings in the game: crosshairsize: 0.055 zoomcrosshairsize: 0.07 and venom becomes aimingfun.

PS.: Maybe it looks complicated, but no it isn't a big deal - just try it out ;) .
