BUG with move buttons

Postby viktoric! » 24 Jan 2012, 11:27

When my character stands on the shadow, the move buttons (left or right)
do not work for the character. He can only jump! But when the oposit happens, when
the shadow stands on the character and i press the move button, character moves ok.

Hello viktoric!,

IIRC this is the behaviour since the initial release.
The bottom character (either the player or the shadow) can walk, this is to allow actions like the shadow moving across several shadow blocks.
The player can then jump on the shadow and jump off him whilst the shadow keeps on walking.

The upper character can't move to make landing on the other easier.
If you jump on him without "getting grabbed" you could easily walk over him instead of standing still on him.

But perhaps this should change?
What do others think?

This behaviour seems right to me.

But there is a problem when the holding character is on a moving block! This has caused me many deaths on spiky travel!
(The upper one should move with the bottom one when he's on a moving block, no?)

I've seen this behaviour too, it's caused because a character only gets velocity by moving blocks not by the other when he's holding him.
I'll try to find a fix for that. ;)

By the meaning of "getting grabbed" i understand that the player grabs the shadow and
walks with it on the top of him. But that does not happen! By pressing the move buttons
player continues walking but the shadow falls down. So the upper one should move with
the bottom one.

Because of the specificity the concept has about the incapability of the shadow
to move without recording first its moves, it might be a good idea to
rebuilt the "moving rules" ??

Hello all,

I think it would make more sense if the player would be able to move the shadow when it's on top of him.
The same goes for the player standing on the shadow, he should move horizontally with the shadow.

If we implement this it is logical that the character on top can't move sidewards, else it would be near impossible for the player to let the shadow land on him (and stand still).

Could you explain a bit more what you mean by "moving rules", not what they are but what they should be.
Is it enough to implement only these two things?:
    * Allow the bottom character to walk with the upper.
    * Let the upper character move (horizontally) along with the bottom one.

Thanks again for your feedback. :)

If we can travel with the other character on our back, it will change the logic and the difficulty of some levels no?

Hello MCMic,

This will probably change the logic, puzzles and the difficulty of levels.
It can even break levels, but if we want to change it, it is better to do it right now than a couple of releases later.

What should we do?

I don't think it should be modified.

Yes, i mean exactly these two things
* Allow the bottom character to walk with the upper.
* Let the upper character move (horizontally) along with the bottom one, when i say "moving rules".
BUT you are right when you say Edward_Lii,that it would make more sense if the player
would be able to move the shadow when it's on top of him.
I believe THIS change would not affect a lot the levels as they are now.
The opposite would change the concept of the game(allowing the shadow to move
by holding the player).
