Music suggestion

Postby asciimonster » 28 Dec 2011, 17:52

I've found a piece that matches my criteria. I'm just not really sure if this is worth continuing, because it's so... odd.

It's from Schubert's "Der Wanderer an den Mond" ("The hobo (talking) to the moon"), Deutsch 931.

What do you guys think of it?

Well my stance is like on the other songs you brought up; they're all nice songs but I doubt this fits racing. More generally speaking, I think most classical music doesn't fit racing; Could be used for addons though, I don't oppose that.

Auria {l Wrote}:More generally speaking, I think most classical music doesn't fit racing(...)

And Beethoven's fifth (used in fort magma) is not a classical piece?!

Auria, I just like doing music just for the fun of it. If anybody likes it, that's great. If nobody likes it, no harm done. But could you please give me a description of music that is, in your view, "fit for racing", so we don't have to go through all these iterations of "no that's not it". It's not stimulating in the least.

On the other hand if you want me to stop, but do not know how to, please tell me straight up. I'm 35 years old; I can handle it.

You will notice it's no more there :)

Sure, no problem, I don't want to disappoint you!

I guess you first need to select a specific track for your song to go with. If the jungle track, for instance (this one could use better music), you'd go with more drums and jungle style; etc. I think what lacks in your songs is that they don't fit any specific track

More generally, I think classical music is just too sophisticated for game music (not that I can't appreciate
'sophisticated' music, really, I think it's just too much for a game; we're looking for something to remain in the background). Maybe listen to the menu music, the new fort magma music, the Kart Grand Prix music, Dance Cleopatra, the Snowy song, etc. By listening to the current songs we have maybe you can get the idea of what kind of rythmic but simple music we're looking for

And of course, if you like working with classical music, definitely feel free to make it and share! Though of course if you want it to get in-game you may need to adapt the style. At this time I think our music set is reasonably complete, but the jungle song is one I'd replace

Just my two cents on music in STK:
- I personally find the menu music ok, but it quickly becomes boring, and we always hear the beginning of the song, which is a bit violent.
- I think classical music can fit, but rearranged: think of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hg8Fa_EUQqY
