New HUD Guns

I will wait no longer. I'm officially beginning work on the new guns. I wan't to know what you guys think of the current guns, how they can be improved, and whatever other ideas/inspirations you have.

Pistol
I'm thinking as big and BA as possible. (it is fairly powerful) I really love the HALO 1 pistol aesthetic. Prominent slide to add some flourish to firing animations. Considering it has a ten-round clip, IMO it would make more sense to have a clip outside the handle.

Sword
The big thing I have in mind is to get the other hand involved in this. A bit like Bioshock, where you can at least see the other hand. Otherwise I like how it looks now. Maybe just a little bit of change here.

SMG
Should still be kept small and compact, I agree with the mini-uzi look for this.

Shotgun
Sounds to me like a lot of people don't like this one. Personally it's my favorite one currently in the game. Even more open than usual on this one.

Rifle
The current one, quite frankly, sucks. Who came up with a scope with a change in angle? I'm thinking something very futuristic for this. It is a laser rifle after all. Possibly something like the barrel being made up of two things projecting out from the front, like the geonosion escorts to Count Dooku in Star Wars II, but sleeker.

Plasma
It's lacking somewhere, I just can't figure out where at the moment...

Grenades
I actually came up with something like a gauntlet for this one. The grenades float in your hand, and to throw them you just push your hand forward like you're using the force lol.

Rocket
I don't like the current grouch-firing trash can. Maybe the same kind of gauntlet look as the grenades on this, or go for the classic SMAW style bazooka thingy

A big let-down for me is that the weapons don't have their own pick-up animations. It would involve code to do this, so I can't do it lol.

You also forget the flamer, the only one that have a correct reload animation.

I had no idea you were working on new guns as well. Sorry for stepping on your toes a little. That pistol looks great, very fluid. And the shotgun is FANTASTIC! Lol I hope I can make something to equal that.

would be great if the hand-texture was separated from the player model texture... but actually why not place the weapons in such a way that hand models are not needed at all (like in many fast paced FPS)?

a reload without hands... looks weird
and there's so much wish for "modern" reloading animation. I suppose you can't just make the gun goes down, then up, anymore

You can set a new texture to hand if you like, you just have to define this in the cfg.

The problem is that the only texture we have for the hands, is the player model one

Reloads for the rocket and plasma are cool to me. You could always remodel the plasma, but as you stated, not sure where to start either lol. I think the Flamer is perfect (reloading, that is). Its really sleek and I'd love to see a twixtor slo mo for that ;)

I love the halo reference for the Pistol, but unfortunately Pistol is done already :P but the reloads are pretty similar.

I'd love to see what direction you go in for the Rifle and Sword. I do like fawstoar's suggestion, as long as it still glows like it usually does, IDC what you do to it. To be honest, I'm not sure how far into the future you can go to upgrade a sword, what with it being such a medieval aged weapon. It can only be changed so much before it becomes 'something else'... O.o

Btw, sniper rifle reload in halo was pretty cool. Could think about that.

I personally like the concepts you have going for the SMG and Plasma ^_^ The Plasma concept is probably my favorite of the bunch.

I wasn't so sure about the plasma either, RE doesn't have a whole lot of "smooth+sleek" vibes floating around (pardon the '60s slang) I'll have to add some squareness to it. I do like the arm thing rather then the hand thing though, if you know what I mean.
I tried to stay as true to the color-codedness of the current weapons as I could.
The hand in the grenade glove is red because the skins for the 0.9 RE models had alot of red, and were my favorite skin. Not the color of the glove. The glove is very minimalistic, with wires running to the fingertips along the back of the hand.
I made the flamer smaller then it currently is because it really doesn't have much ammo.

I'd like to see the Rifle made, seeing as any new remodeling of it is well welcomed by me. I can see you went for the MP5k look for the SMG rather than the mini uzi. It's not a huge difference or anything. Just the fact that you use two hands rather than one. Plasma looks alright, but as stated before its hard to go about anything with the Plasma. I do like how the doodle kind of looks like a shark rather than the hair shavers as was mentioned in a thread a while back (not sure which one). Flamer is ok, although I'm fine with the flamer how it is now. Actually one of the best looking weapons for it's use, next to the Rocket. I think the grenade concept would look cool, although I've always thought grenades should go above the head rather than forced in front of you, but that's how nades are thrown in this game anyway, so kudos for that.

I wish i could draw like that.

So would the hand model have to be modified along with the weapon, or would you just have to modify the weapon only?

Loved the original, they had a glove for everything

To make the glove mesh with the hand, I'd just have to animate it really well. I aim on redoing the HUD hands too, since the desolately suck.

I got the high poly shotgun finished, baked the normal map, and started on the diff map. Then I remembered, I'm one of the greatest crimes ever committed against texturing. Anyone else wanna texture this thing? I'll upload the file when I get the chance. I did get the HUD hands tamed, and IK rigged. The file's attached if anybody wants them. I still die a little inside evey time I look at the mesh though...

Got the rifle done, since it seemed to be the most in-demand. I cannot code literally anything though lol. If someone could figure this out and tell me how to do it, I,d be very gratefull, i.e. I'm begging you. It has all the animations, just needs to be added in-game.
