Large map are great.
Maybe it already have been mentioned, but the problem is that you can hardly play it with something else than rifle/smg.

You may try to take other weapon in consideration by adding wall to get close while being covered, or underground passage, etc...

Also, quin always want things very laaarge, (sometime a bit to much :)) Balance is hard in Red Eclipse with aerial/agile gameplay.
Too opened map = Unbalanced weaponry/Boring gameplay
Too tight = Frustrating gameplay/No use of parkour

I didn't find the perfect balance yet, and gameplay change every release :)

I did a two part video of Goku's Escape map. It fits for Campaign and Time Trial modes. Very fun and incredibly beautiful (tho might not be for people who suffer from epileptic seizures). I suggest anyone who wants to try something different from the normal instagibbing and arena deathmatches give this a try.

Thanks for the support. I enjoyed seeing the map with lower graphics. Im glad the lighting ideas were still retained.

Hi all) I finally decided to submit three new maps.

So, my first map - Fortress.
This is a map I made for a long time. Some players have had time to evaluate and say that it is good. I would assume that they are right). Map is symmetric and balanced. Has unobtrusively architecture without complex structures. Played in that players compared this map with dutility. hm..maybe). But unlike dutility this map has 2 road (top and bottom) connecting the fortress. Just to have her teleport. This map supports ALL game modes (except camraign and time-trial course). It is good as for the duel, and fighting for the team.
Well, this map has some things that may not like the players and that.
1)-ladder. They are too narrow to maneuver, and when you climb on them you strongly shaken
2) to someone might not like the design.

My second map has a pretty interesting name - TOILET XD
Speaking honestly, I never thought that I would put this map I did here.I buil it only for myself and for my own pleasure. Map made for the week. But some players says , that this map is very good and in the end this map here )))). Map is a large dressing room with cabinets, shelves and other interesting things. This is a map I do not optimized for fighting with bots and bots so stupid enough. The same map not set up under the regime of Bomber-Ball. It is better to play with real players. More did not speak. This is a must see). Let me just say that this map has 2 secret teleport. In future versions I will correct some bugs (bots and bomer-ball)

And my third map. This time for the Time-trial. This name - Heaven. Despite its name, this map can become a living hell for the players as map is quite complicated even for good players. The map itself looks like as if the players are trained in acrobatics in the sky. Nice and hard. The only bug that map - it's texture "sky". Well you can see it when you play.

This is one of my developments. He wanted to show. map is fully playable. I haven't enough players that have to test it as Bots play Bomber-Ball can not. For the map can not be considered. If this kind of map (of course much prettier) will be in demand - I remade it.

Fortress seems fantastic. The ladders need fixing, but otherwise it seems like a fun CTF or Bomber ball match. Heaven was fun to jump around but I'm not sure all of the hurdles are possible (specifically, the one where there are 6 or so walls on either side of the course that you have to wall-run across). Toilet... I don't even... the catapulting mechanic was fun, but otherwise it's just a playground. Finally, Basketball is ... fine. I guess. It's got no unique value, and the bomb usually bounces off the rim of the basket.

Fortress is great, though! Maybe could use a little refining, and I'm not crazy about the cartoony texturing (but that's just my taste), but otherwise it could be a candidate for a community map pack.

I agree with Fawstoar that the concept is nice but there is some finetuning to do. Try to add some more variation in the geometry, cartoony is the right word for the texturing atm and maybe replace the slopes with stairs? They are also very very steep. Am I the only one who finds it strange that you spawn above the map when you fall into the water? :)

Map is fully passable (he tested it at creation). Many players have tried to pass it. Many cursed. The most striking example was yesterday. Skillz (player of the clan FD) always said (in step 6 walls) "I can not," "I can not", "so close" .... but I have always said the opposite. And now, after 40 minutes (!!!) he dit that XD. In general, the record on the map put goku (who would doubt), 1 minute 33 seconds (my record 1-50). How he did it - the concept of infinity ...
People! Tell me about all the bugs you encounter. I'll fix it.
I want fix some things on map. And to make the complicated version for professionals)

I'm not crazy about the cartoony texturing too XD.It just happens when i create a map. I wanted to make a grim fortress in the air, but when I posted the source of light, texture have a cartoon look. And I finally decided to change the map)

Yes outputting not only you XD. But this is due to the fact that you're too overclocked before jumping. You had to teleport to the platform at the top)

For fortress, I suggest you put blue and red ambient lights at the corresponding bases to fix the cartoony look. Try lights with high radius and 50-100 on red or blue color amount. Also I found that some of the skyboxes in the penguins folder helped reduce the over brightness of the map. I also suggest removing the high platform you teleport to. U can keep the teleport and the rocket but i would remove platform to avoid camping. I think this map has the most potential for an actual RE release.

For heaven, I recommend making the 6 wall jump easier somehow. Perhaps make the landing pad extend back a little bit so you dont have to jump after the last wall. That one jump makes the course seem impossible to many players so if your planning on making an advanced version you should focus on making the normal version beatable by the general RE player. btw, i got my time on that map by doing a perfect run and jumping around any jumps i could avoid (doing two or more of the jumps in one jump.)

For Toilet. it is enjoyable for what it is. The map is too open and high for many RE purposes but is a fun sandbox map. You should probably add more secrets and fun little jumps. If you add lights with a high radius it will help the textures look less repetitive.

Have not tried the bomber ball map but i will comment on it when i do.

Here is an example of my suggestions for fortress. I used a 4 lights on the front of the base and one on each of the other three sides/on top of the square base. red - 400 100 15 0 0

Teleporting after falling though thin water held up by nothing feels strange. Perhaps you should try a texture that looks like a portal surface. you can add motion to a texture with /vscroll # and that can make some surfaces look more like a portal texture. Here is a still texture that I thought worked well. i just moved the portal a little higher.

For the ladder, you have to set a clip material under the ladder (it have to be sightly bigger than the cubes to make it smooth) (see screen2)

For the stairs/ramps, there is a problem than I often see. A stair or a ramp must not be 45°, cause it's quite annoying to play with (less visibility, slowed moves, frustrating). It's more comfortable for gameplay to have it 22.5° or even 11.25° if it's a long one. (screen 1)

I guess gameplay can also be improved with larger rooms and more clear path inside the castles.

here is another little idea i had for the map. This may not be what you are going for but it may fix a few of the problems that have been brought up so far.

What i did
- go to the second largest cube size
- select your whole map
- press the n key to grab all entities
- copy
- press delete to clear all entities
- remove all cubes
- select two cube areas
- press v and recalculate your lights

you would have to change a few cubes to match the larger size and add more lights in the fortresses.

these are just some ideas ive had since i downloaded the map.

2 Correct the slopes
3 May change the texture of descents
4 Add a few small things architectural
5 Change the cartoon form perhaps not worth it. (Do not worry kr1egsgott, for such I will not go =)) The appearance of this contributes card (architecture). If i do map more brutal, it means much to change the architecture and create a lot of weak light sources, and it looks nice because it is now.
6 Teleport and the upper platform. I think that the platform does not linger long campers. Since the It is easiest to get to the enemy base (CTF) and the players will constantly go through it. On the platform at longestyard campers do not last long for example). And I need to think about how to fix the teleport without removing the water. Even some imagine how it would look like)
7 This increase is clearly not going to map). Otherwise, the road between the cards become too long and it will spoil the gameplay. In the CTF team-insta bot (with skill 101) on the map I have time to 2 times in the back to shoot and what will happen in a larger map?

I think that map is done. I downloaded it. It's a good map, but if you want to play it, looks like you are gonna need a good number of people. Probably like between 10 or more people, when I was flying through it, it felt like it needed at least a 6v6 for people to at least feel balanced.

Regarding the screenshot, I kind of get a Halo-y dark theme from just looking at it (that means I LIKE IT btw!). It looks really decent, and I definitely wanna see the full version of it once you're done :)

Hey that's a nice idea for all aspiring map makers here: Weather affected maps.
For example, Wet has the rainy effect and Dawn has that fog effect. A snow map would be nice. Don't really have to make it snow, but a snow based map with snow textures would be very much different to see.

So... can we compile the maps we want to see, as a community, in v1.2, perhaps?

Off the top of my head I can think of John_III's Doppelfort, Ulukai's Ares, 4rson's Pumpstation (my personal favorite), and TristamK's Fortress. Wazubaba's Quad Arena seemed fine when I tested it, could maybe use some more polish?

I'm probably forgetting some, but I it would be great if we could fit a few maps into the next update. Maybe someone wants to start a topic about this?

Hi,

here comes the map... Afterlife. The idea of the map is castle covered by sand and water with designed things and underground passage across the map. It is a quite large map, a lot of water, a lot of places. I think the map can work pretty well for capture the flag and secure the flag mode, but should be good playable as deathmatch or team insta as well. When we tested it, it worked well. But better play there with more players (4+), because of size.
