3rd Person Anyone?

3rd Person Anyone?

Postby inpersona64 » 24 Sep 2011, 03:55

Just a small thread i wanted to open because I wanted to ask this question:

Does anyone play 3rd person ONLY or MOSTLY?
I ask because I know it's there, and the only time i flicker between 1st and 3rd is when im spectating. So I mean, is there a good gametype+mutator combo where 3rd person would be good or come in handy?

Actually, this would be pretty good in bomberball --- is there a crosshair in the 3rd person view?

I could see it working in Bomber Ball. Although, I still always prefer 1st person to 3rd, but i'm open to new experiences. And i guess since there's really no real goal of time trial, 3rd person would be ok lol. maybe i'll try 3rd person Medieval Basket BB with some bots later on.

Ummm... guys, it's an FPS, a First-Person Shooter. I don't think that any gametypes should even support playing in 3rd person view. Imo it should be spactating only.

Even my spectating is in 1st person, because I don't like that there is no reload animation and it's a bit strange to see that in 3rd person view :p Will there eventually come a reload animation? Anything is better than what it is now...

Roger that, unfortunately I have no experience at all...

Maybe riidom who also experiments with some new player models would be up for it?

That really doesn't mean anything. Because most of the top games have a 3rd person perspective in some way or another. Bad Company 2 lets you pilot a chopper in 3rd person as well as drive a vehicle above. Halo is the same way. Call of Duty has a 3rd person perspective for particular gametypes. Games want, or need, to offer this alternative because there are players from different types of games that may not fancy 1st person perspective.

Driving a vehicle is a different story, but I don't see it fit in RE atm.

Also, these top games force you to play in 3rd person view in situations you mentioned. In RE you get the choice and imo that's not completely fair. In 3rd person you get to see much better what happens around you. If RE forces everyone to use the same settings in a mutator or game mode, I woudln't mind at all.

Just my 2 cents, it's a bit a matter of taste :)

I changed my third person change to the f key so i can change quickly between the two. Its not that unfair, everyone can use third person or first person how they see fit and those who choose not to use it choose not to benefit from it. I like having the option to play how I want. Sometimes I will only play in third person. sometimes I switch tactfully.

I don't think it's unfair, it's just the beauty of gaming on a computer vs. gaming on a console. You have more freedom and options to customize and step up your game. Quick-binding firstpersonswitch is no different than using my radar style toggle, or coming up with any other convenient or useful bind, or script, or anything.
Like Goku said, it's all about how you choose to benefit. Not everyone chooses to use RE's parkour to it's full potential, so they don't benefit. Then I run along a wall above them and hit them from above or get behind them. It's just me choosing to benefit from the potential within Impulse.

Eh, I think some games blur the lines. For example, in this case, SOCOM Confrontation, for the PS3, allows you to switch between first person and 3rd person. I also noticed that you can play 1st person view in the Ratchet and Clank games on the PS2 (particularly R&C Up Your Arsenal and Ratchet: Deadlocked, my favorite). Although, on console, 3rd person trumps 1st person everytime lol.
