Power-up Suggestion: The Angry Traffic Cone

Power-up Suggestion: The Angry Traffic Cone

Postby Turtle » 02 Sep 2011, 21:20

Background: A crazed road construction worker got tired of drivers pushing away his neatly arranged traffic cone, so one day he came across the exploding cupcake recipe...One thing lead to another and the Angry Traffic Cone was born.

Effects: Karts who collide with this red traffic cone explode upwards as if hit by a cupcake or bowling ball.

Design: A red traffic cone bigger than average kart size. In the traffic cone is a picture of an angry smile:

I like this idea, and I wouldlike to have them work exactely as bananas. This would allow track designers to vary a little between different penalty items.

Maybe it could act like a gravity-well, or it could get up on legs & run around a bit & then sit down again.

@Auria
What? Bubblegum effect is hardly helpful. You briefly lose some speed and then boom your right back racing (like 2 seconds). All you need to counter a bubblegum is 1 nitro. This suggested item is meant to make you explode on impact, same power effect as the dynamite.

@Kinsu
I would prefer if that idea was giving to someone's suggestion for a paint on road item (makes the card spin out of control).

@Mr_Spoon & STKRudy85
Yes!!!!
In Mario Kart 64 this item is an upside down question item box, so it works best by dropping them off on the real ones. The idea there was that players in a rush to get an item, or coming out of sharp turn would crash into them. However, this is STK so gift boxes would do a poor job of hiding the "The Angry Traffic Cone". The best thing would be to allow it to momentarily walk and dash towards players nearby. Maybe give it 3 seconds to move from side to side? or forward as well? For laughs when it is about to dash towards a player, it could start blowing off steam like in the 1st picture. Basically, it is mad that drivers are ignoring it. :D

Hmm, it's an interesting idea, but I really wonder how clear this would appear to the player...but it can't be worse than a banana that either explodes or gives you an anchor :p

I agree, but in SVN (and thus for 0.7.3) I made the bubblegum quite a bit nastier ;)
Other than that I don't really oppose new collectible ideas, but the thing is that we don't need only ideas, we also need 3D models and someone to actually code the feature ;)

Yeah I wish I could code, but don't have experience in the area (motivation will probably not be enough).
