Need music?

Need music?

Postby kalsan » 16 Feb 2011, 00:13

Hi everybody
I like to build repeditive tracks, easy to loop, using GarageBand.
Is STK short on music and it would make sence if I would contribute a song or two, or are there already plenty available and my help wouldn't make any sence?

Hi,

original music is always welcome, we could use a better song for Fort Magma, possibly Jungle too. Now, looping a couple Garage Band loops is probably not creative enough for our needs

I actually don't use loops (except for drums sometimes), but I write my own.
with "loop" i meant that the music can be put in a loop, so that the end matches the beginning and it can be repeated (looped).
What kind of music is needed?

A jungle song for the jungle track would be nice :)
Also Fort Magma needs a "lava" song, i.e. a song for a bad guy's dwellings

Done :-)
I tried to reproduce the dark ambiance of the track. Bubbles and water falls bring in nice sound effects. I muted the STK music and put that song on while running through Fort Magma to check if it matches, in my opinion it does.
You may download the mp3-file from http://kalsan.ch.vu.at.server28.hostfac ... p/Lava.mp3
Please post here when you are done downloading, because I will remove the file at that moment. Lava.mp3 is only for STK and I don't want the song to be used for anything else. If you have any suggestions for changes etc., feel free to describe them and I will adjust the song.

Hi,

unfortunately I cannot access the song, I get

Firefox can't find the server at kalsan.ch.vu.at.server28.hostfactory.ch.

(and, talking about licenses : I'm sorry but we will not be able to legally the strong from being used in STK only, songs for an open-source game require an open license, like CC-BY-SA 3.0, if you agree with it - however the odds it gets used somewhere else are thin, generally people like original content :) )

OK I will open the song than.
Now, the license is open license and everybody may use it.
When clicking the link, I can access it just fine, don't know what's wrong there. Do you have an e-mail adress or other possibility to send it to?

Maybe SkyDrive works for you. This is where I published the song on SkyDrive:

Is there a way to suscribe to this threat? I hate it to check for new replies all the time...

Thanks, I was able to download it :)

Very nice little tune, good job :D Just one thing though, in STK we use .ogg songs, not .mp3; so could you either provide a ogg song, or perhaps a lossless version? (lossless or very low compression would be a good idea since we like to keep uncompressed original data files)

Oh in the very bottom... couldn't find it ;-)
I converted the file to OGG using the quality setting: "Insanely high", that makes me laugh :-)
Removed the file on hostfactory.
Link for OGG: http://cid-2ddfbdcb1e801eb9.office.live ... 20Lava.ogg
Please notify me when download complete and also if the file will be used (and if yes how and when), I don't know anything about open source development and I am curious.
Thx

Hi,

thanks a lot :)
This is what I plan to do : I would add it to SVN (which is our development version), under version Creative-Commons By Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 ( http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ ), and of course give you credits by adding you to the credits screen. Your song would then appear in the next version of SuperTuxKart (0.7.1)

If you can confirm that all of this is fine with you, I will go on and do it :)

Would be great if you would do it, thanks!
Do you need a name or is Kalsan good enough?

I've noticed that some tracks have the same music track (haha), as Around the lighthouse and snow peak... maybe you could try a song for one of them if you want :)

For instance, music for jungle :)
