Battle Stage: Lincity Towers

Lincity Towers 5th preview

Postby machrider14 » 14 Dec 2011, 20:51

Here's the 5th preview of the city arena. I now added the metal bridges to connect from one tower to the next, fixed parts of the arena, and more towers around the city including the new building with a Helipad.

Here's the new tower with a helipad, it's gonna be where the Helicopter is located on the back of the Ubuntu Tower.

This is going to be fun!

Lincity Towers 6th preview

Postby machrider14 » 15 Dec 2011, 20:10

Here's the 6th preview of the city arena. I added 4 new towers like the OpenSUSE Building and the Konqeror office building. The picture was expanded to see the new buildings.

I never got any good at 3d modeling, but I'm sure most people at Google's 3D Warehouse would be happy to release und CC-BY-SA

Still looking for anyone who would like to do... and a helicopter.

:) If you want a very interesting helicopter you could try this one which i just whipped up. It needs textures to be completed. I don't know if you'll want it but i guess that you can try putting it in your city to see if it fits in. It isn't much of a model but i though i'd make an attempt. As jpenguin said you could probably find nice models from google wharehouse and get the creator to give you a license for it.

Ok thanks, but I can't download it and use it on the earlier version of Google Sketchup, I have the latest version on my home computer. But I will use it on the stage.
Try doing some textures 1st until I place it on the stage.

Aren't SketchUp file just rename ZIP files with a *.dae inside?
I think you could also use https://www.babel3d.com/ to concert SketchUp to 3DS or OBJ...

Have you ever checked out the 3D Warehouse license? IIf a creator agrees to that, I think he/she will surely release under CC-BY

Just being curious: Why do you use the old (3.x) icon for Konqueror instead of the new Oxygen (4.x) one?

Just remember, most of those logos are trademarked, so you should check up on how you are allowed to use their trademark. I think you'll find you won't be able to use either of the Blender or openSUSE logos, and I can't say anything about the others.

But I need some help with good quality trademarked logos. I will be posting the stage model from sketchup here and help with the development.

I don’t know if you ever tried out your arena in stk but here it is (very crude of course, not all the textures are proper). On the matter of criticism your arena actually isn’t that nice to drive in at the moment. If you play it the bridges are way out of proportion to the tower, it isn't smooth enough, and there isn’t much interest (on the stage that is). Except for the scenery which is A1, this needs a good bit of work or completely new idea to be any good. You’ve got some really nice scenery so the stage is set for a beautiful mid-city battle arena.

The bridges that lead to the linux building are the ones which are too big. Have you ever played your arena in stk before?

I'm sorry, uploaded the wrong thing (what i did upload was the blender and kmz files). Here's the correct one for you to try.

Lincity Towers 7th preview

Postby machrider14 » 04 Jan 2012, 16:57

Here's the 7th preview of the city arena. I added a couple of new towers throughout the city including the all new Mozilla Firefox office building behind the tower with the helipad. I should give credit for these logos since I don't own them, but it's related to open source software. I will add more soon.

Hi machrider14, just a quick note connected with making arenas in google sketchup. The reason why so many surfaces were white in the stk version which i made is because in your model there were lots of faces with one material on the one side and another material(usually white) on the other side. This information won't carry to stk and one side will dominate, often resulting in the side which you didn't intend. The simple fix to this is to go all around your model and make sure that the material is the same on both sides of each face.

You mean the stage arena model, but not the surrounding buildings?

Everything must have the same texture on both sides. For instance the bridges between the linux tower and the outer towers were white - why? Because on one side there was a color and on the other there was black (don't use sketchup colors they just turn out white in the game). In this case both turned out white and it was white in the game.

Oh I see what you mean, guess i'll make some changes. Placing the textures on both sides.

Fixing some stuff for the stage.

Postby machrider14 » 04 Jan 2012, 20:51

As I have discussed with cheesebrother, there were some problems for the stage. While testing out the stage on STK the textures were white, so I decided to place it on both sides using the default material, I took out the sketchup colors and use the regular material. I'm gonna be adding some new textures on the stage like the bridges and making sure that they are in both sides.

Here's the image, if there's something wrong with it, ask me.
