[Poll] Are forest stones background items?

If you encounter a stone, you never know whether it’s solid or just a background item. Even in the official levels the usage of the stone is inconsistent. Let’s make a poll so that the stone knows what its purpose is.

Good idea. In recent levels, I've tried to avoid to set it as background item, as it can really get confusing. On the other hand, the grassy stone variant is a popular foreground eye-candy-tool of mine...

I personally think they belong in the background, so that all the solid tiles can remain in one visible tilemap.

I see both as being in the background.

I have no idea but this has to be the most visually unclear tile, I feel like if it's supposed to be a background tile it should be made smaller and more spread out

I always considered them to be solid, similar to the 2D sonic the hedgehog games where they are solid objects as well.

EDIT: Basically they are used the same way as pipes in the main game as they are placed all in a z=-1 solid layer to prevent conflicts with the main ground tiles (especially grass and snow). However, I agree that they require a graphic update to appear more clearly as a solid tile that the player can react with. Due to its current graphic style it looks out of place.

Maybe Make The Background Version Darker?
That Could Help.

Yeah! Maybe make the solid one a little bit more brighter?

I think the best way to distinguish between solid and background items is to give the solid tiles a black border to make them stand out more (very common in games). Some enemy sprites got recently updated with this in mind (e.g. fish, darttrap). IMO rocks should never be solid, so there should not be two variants.
