Free culture memes

Postby drummyfish » 12 Jan 2020, 08:54

hello frens

Proprietary corpos have their propaganda going strong and poured into normie brains every day, we need to counter it with some quality memes.

Post your free culture and free SW memes and propaganda. It's best if it's made by you so that new memes come to existence. It's also good if we reshare each other memes in our circles so as to give them a boost.

Here is a new CC license spectrum I've made with GIMP

Image

It's CC0 1.0 of course.

Well I wrote this some time ago.

What does your choice of Creative Commons -license tell about you?

CC-0 You're either anti-copyright or just don't value your work.
CC-BY You wanted to use a permissive license and weren't aware of the no-DRM clause.
CC-BY-SA You're a free culture idealist who thinks copylefting their work makes some kind of difference.
CC-NC You're a capitalist: no one else should be allowed make money with your work!
CC-NC-SA You're an anti-capitalist: no one should be allowed make money with your work!
CC-ND You have never encountered a remix that you like and think they're all trash.
CC-NC-ND You were asked to put your work under a CC license but what you really wanted was "All rights reserved."
Alternative to all: You got confused while choosing a license and the one you picked doesn't do what you think it does, much less what you want it to do.

It's CC-BY-SA 4.0 of course.

CC0 also means John Wayne steals your work and says it was always his own work while you stole it from him
everyone believes John Wayne for some reason and nobody know about original author

That's a great one @Huitsi :)

Here are some more of my older works I found among my shitposts on the Internet.

They're all CC0 + a waiver of trademarks and all other intellectual """property""".

Modern computer era is silly. Using CC0 for major works is Albert Einstein level of smart! (don't forget contribution of scientists is knowledge and that is public domain) Cmon people, be like Einstein.

Maybe we can make a fun rule to this thread that from now on if you disagree with someone you have to express it with a meme.

Having so many kiddo theories based on relativity is so annoying. I wish e = mc^2 was proprietary.

Sad to hear you're so hurt by kids being kids. I for example just ignore them :)

I think the better (and funnier) metaphor for copyleft is a playground / sandbox where you can play inside as much as you like, but are not allowed to leave it.

also science is copyleft because nobody can copyright it
its not "public domain" or something like other works, public domain can be rerighted (with few alternations)

No, you're pretty much completely wrong.

- Science isn't copyleft, you can make copyrighted stuff out of it, by using the science in something that you can copyright (art) or otherwise own (patents). I also don't get the "is copyleft because nobody can copyright it" -- copyleft means that dervative works have to bear the same license, not that someone can copyright it. WTF?
- PD can't be "rerighted". Only derivative works bear the new copyright that arises, but no one can seize the original work.

You have sources for what you say? If I am wrong I'll gladly learn something new.

It seems to me like you're trying very hard to bend the definitions and reasoning to somehow fit your arbitrary view, almost as if trolling. In such case make a funny meme out of it please, it would fit this thread.

anon666 {l Wrote}:these kids will grow into capitalists and put you an a jail :)

Here I am completely missing what you're trying to say, sorry. Maybe better kill the kids who make shitty mods to old games so that they can't become capitalists or what? I'd rather let them live and teach them to share so that they don't grow up to being capitalists.

EDIT:

Let's get back on topic, I'd like this thread to be about fun, not rant. I'll gladly see and enjoy any memes expressing disagreement with my memes.

"derivative works" means someone putting your stuff into a new "bookcover" and then says its his own

happens everyday

also they will pretty much never say anything about the original work, they're usurpers

its the same as rerighting

basically its what microsoft did with BSD code in windows (if you know this story (about TCP/IP stack, its kind of well known one))
(and probaby in MSDOS too)

Science isn't copyleft, you can make copyrighted stuff out of it

i believe science itself is not a subject for copyright, at least nobody tried to copyright it
copyleft also allows "closed" and "copyrighted" derivative works (not every license tho), the only part of software you have to share is your modifications to the original code/library thats copylefted
the classic example is KHTML when apple stole the source code but refused to give it back to opensource (until some time)
(the community asked only for modifications, later apple even gave access to the repository with full history)

also by copyleft i mostly meant "the opposite of copyright" or "non-copyrightable thing that stays "pure"" (basically the same thing as copyleft, just not being part of original "copyleft" concepts maybe)

missing from the conversation is that fact that the entire concept of american copyright is based on encouraging things to go into the public domain, and almost nothing can anymore without a public domain dedication, and cc0 is a public domain dedication designed to work globally (even in finland.)

it is also gpl compatible-- cc typically is not (by-sa 4.0 is) and cc0 was probably the first global crossover from cc/gpl compatible ever.

people who think like drummy are thinking in cultural terms. people who think licenses will stop usurpers are thinking like lawyers. but lawyers frequently exist in a fantasy world where their specialised area of legal expertise actually defines the reality of the world... and while it certainly has influence and interaction, it does not define reality at all. reality and lawyers will always be at odds with each other. if you want to choose the noble side, id avoid spiritually marrying the lawyers when possible. i still support these licenses, but some of the arguments for/against them are extremely cynical. the linux kernel is however, a lot better off under the gpl-- the more that compliance is offshored to microsoft, the more it will hurt the gpl, free software, as well as the kernel. be ready.

Uh, no. Copyright is needed to inflict pain and suffering for profit and once all the money has been extorted and people killed themselves, then it just so happens to go into public domain.

Sorry, I meant historically. Contemporary copyright is of course, more like you said.
