Hello everyone,

we released the first beta of SuperTux 0.6.1. You can download the build from here:

Translation problems:
- Transifex is not up-to date (e.g. menu-principale). For example, the string “Confirm aborting level” is missing.
- World 2 also does not seem up-to date translation-wise
- Not all custom levelpacks are on Transifex

Regressions:
- Forest: Can't proceed over first bridge (regression from 0.6.0). Ghost Forest is inaccessible, despite what the changelog claims
- Can no longer use arrow keys to speed up / scroll credits screen (regression from 0.6.0)

Bugs:
- You can collect coins that are inside a frozen block (cave entrance level in Icy Island)
- Dead badguys are being pushed by explosions, which looks hilariously glitchy
- Screen briefly turns dark and laggs in the world1/world2 transition
- First Forest level: The help block text (door) is not completely visible on my screen (workaround: use scroll-up key)
- Coins are displayed in credits screen.
- When I press Esc on credits screen, it shows a menu that looks like a level, with stuff like “Abort level” and “Restart level”
- In the opening Icy Island cut scene (and other cutscenes), the black bar does at the bottom does not cover the bottom completely (the lowest 1 pixel is transparent) (resolution = 1920×1080 fullscreen)
- Tux the Builder level: Music resets after using door
- If you open a trampoline surprise block from below by butt-jump, you die!!! (Bouncy Coils, and another level in Icy Island)
- Forest: Some dirt tiles have a color mismatch (screenshot in GitHub issue)
- FPS display in -dev build obscures crucial editor widgets

Feedback:
- It's funny to re-introduce the "Excellent!" voice. It's used when entering a hidden area. However, this sound is language-specific (English), and doesn't make sense in e.g. German. Suggestion: Use “Excellent!” sound in English, but use a different generic sound effect for other languages
- The new music for the fridge level and forest cave levels is amazing!
- Ice in the Hole level: The up arrow sign will kill you because it lures you right below the ice crusher. There is no warning sign. Intentional?
- Forest world has decidous trees on world map, but there are no such trees in any of the levels. Suggestion: Remove them all from the world map

Ideas:
- There are 4 hidden crystals the Icy Island bonus level. They currently don't do anything (says the info block). Suggestion: Add a barrier somewhere in the level that opens when you collect all 4 crystals, unlocking a hidden area with many coins and/or extra life(s)

NOTE:
I will turn these into real issues on GitHub soon(TM).

Well, I would like it more if SuperTux is not using GitHub but I also fear this is a losing battle. Never ever have I managed to convince anyone to leave GitHub so far. But at least GitHub can be used without ever turning on JavaScript. Then GitHub essentially just becomes a dynamic website. That's why I don't do a full boycott of GitHub.

Still, I am personally not happy with FOSS projects being so dependant on GitHub and most of them just ignoring all criticism. Wait a minute, all of this is actually off-topic. You tricked me!

GitHub is wrong because:

- It has tons of proprietary JavaScript on the website, this is proprietary code that browsers blindly trust and run by default (unless you turned it off or use something like NoScript)
- It is ultra-ironic for a FOSS project to be hosted on a website that is full of proprietary code
- It is owned by Microsoft, which isn't trustworthy

I believe we had this discussion somewhere else in FreeGameDev, I just can't find the thread. If you want to start that discussion again, feel free to post a new thread.

I personally see no issue with proprietary software, nor do I think the SuperTux developers are such open-source extremists that they actively shun proprietary software. Also, my computer is Windows (Microsoft) and I do development on it so :/

Thanks for the new levels btw. I like the new ghost forest, it's fun. But I think it's a bit short. I am not sure, but I think the old ghost forest had more levels, right? Especially the lantern mechanic would be nice to get more explored.

Sadly, the Ghost Tower level is extremely laggy, pretty much unplayable. See bugtracker.

I fixed that. It was set to 'Global' instead of 'Announce'.
