If not, what about a channel on Freenode ^_^?

There's a few in use:

#freegamer

Both on Freenode.

#freegamer is the main FGD channel. [MOD EDIT: removed incendiary text; dude don't say stupid things like that - charlie]

As for webchat clients, I'm not sure what Julius has currently decided to that end, though you can of course bring your own client.

I am currently working on our own advanced IRC daemon that will include a simple bouncer as well as the ability to easily connect via XMPP clients. But we will keep bridging to the above mentioned channels, so they will not disappear.
