My Art Contributions

I suggest the Fish and the Flame Fish should be remade. They look horrible. Maybe a Underwater Fish Boss enemy could be made.

I'm focusing on Tux at the moment, maybe later.

I think it looks very good :)

The tip of his beak might need a bit more of an outline because it looks somewhat cut off, but that might just be a side-effect of the upscaling.

It looks good, but I'm not sure how it works with the actual in-game speed of the running.

If you want to try out the new running animation, download the file below:
Running anim test 3.zip

And then un-zip it, and place the "data" folder into the SuperTux root directory. You need to be small Tux for this to work in game.

It looks very good... but... it looks a bit too human in the movement.

I think you are focusing a little too much on making a 'running' animation. The wings should flap and tux should waddle.

The quality is certainly superb. I'm just thinking maybe you should be a bit more out of the box on the movement and think of making it have character rather than making it look like running.

Anyway that's intended as merely constructive. As-is it would still be a huge upgrade on what's there.

In fact looking at videos of penguins running, they basically hold their flippers out. I would do a slight flap for the walking and have the flippers out and behind the penguin for the running, and do away with the arm swaying.

id say there is one thing you need to fix, i cannot disinguish between small and big, and tux has no hat when in fire or ice mode

This is due to me changing the fire and ice hats to separate images like the earth and air hats. The latest build of SuperTux has a code fix that makes this work but earlier versions don't display the hat.

Maybe Tux could run with his arms behind his back and only slightly lean forward like Mario's max run in Mario 3/World.
Sorry for late response btw

I was thinking something more like this:

Although you've inspired me, so I made another concept where Tux leans forward more.
20190821_095832.jpg

This one feels a lot more like a run as opposed to a fast walk but it breaks the realism a bit. I'd imagine it to animate similar to Kirby's run cycle.

I'm working on redoing Tux's jump animation. The current one isn't really that dynamic or expressive, not to mention it's only one frame long, so I took it upon myself to redo it.

NewTuxJump.png

There will be two different jump animations to keep things feeling fresh and varied.
At the moment I'm just sketching the keyframes of the jump, but feedback would be appreciated.

Big Tux's jump animation is done! I might scrap the whole "two jumps" thing because of how long it took to make this and because I have little time to do this sort of stuff, but I will (hopefully) make a new jump animation for small Tux to complement this.

Here's the frames and GIMP file if anyone wants it:
