Level Pack "Cooperation"

Level Pack "Cooperation"

Postby GunChleoc » 25 Nov 2018, 14:22

My first attempt at creating levels for a game.

The final level is empty, it's just there to get it unlocked without hassle while I am creating additional levels.

Hi,

Thanks for the levels! :) They are quite interesting, especially level 3.

However, for level 1, 2 and 4 I have solutions which are significantly shorter than the target time and/or recordings. Do you missed something in designing these levels?

FYI this is the best time records for me (obviously records for level 3 and 5 are not optimal):

Thanks for testing and for the records. I am a pretty slow player, but level 2 had indeed a cheat in it, so I have redesigned it.

I have attached a new version to the first post. I have inserted a new level at level 5, and there are now 10 levels overall.

Thanks for the update! :) However, I think there are still very short solutions to levels 2,4,6, see my record (for level 10 I have a plan but not realized yet)

BTW, when you think it's ready to put them onto the addon please tell me :)

Thanks for all the testing, it helps me find the bugs :)

I'll wait a bit before making a PR. I am still getting some ideas, and the level order might still change to get a nice progression.

You don't need to create a full staircase for Prison Break if you place you shadow smartly, and also depending on how the boxes will fall

I have uploaded a new version. The final level is empty, it's just there to get it unlocked without hassle.

I think the level 4 has been fixed, however level 1,2,6 still have bugs, especially after your fix the level 1 has an even shorter solution

Next version is up. I could not get the replay for level 6 to work, but I did find a potential cheat in there. Let's hope it's the same one.

Hi,

What's the progress in improving the level? Do you think it's the time to put the first version to addon website?

I have been offline for awhile. I'd like to have 24 levels and do a complete playthrough before submitting a PR.

Thank you for the level :D I'll take a look at them one or two days later when I have time.

Before doing that let's discuss if the level pack should go main or go addon. In 0.5.1 development version there are some achievements for completing all main levels. So players have another a few levels to beat for these achievements. :)

If the level pack goes main, then it (and its translations) will be maintained alongside with game code. Any updates will be in master branch immediately. But for regular players playing stable version, they will only get update when a new stable version releases.

If the level pack goes addon, then it is probably stored in a git repository owned by you (just like Akos level pack https://github.com/SanskritFritz/meandm ... lpack_akos ) and the level is updated by sending a pull request with a .zip file to the addon repository. The advantage is the level will get updated even for players using stable version of game. The disadvantage is it's not convenient to use web based translation tool to translate the level pack. Also there are no addon auto-packaging script yet.

So what do you prefer, main level pack or addon level pack?

I'd prefer main, if it's not too much of a maintenance burden for the project. I don't plan to do any more change to it except for bug fixes.

Maybe the achievemens could be updated to completing x number of levelsets, instead of all of them? I could take a look at them if you want.

I think it would be good to have more levelsets distributed with the main game. Using the addons is difficult for less techy people.

OK, I see it. I have tried your level, and I think the difficulty is OK. I'll approve the pull request. :)

By the way, please provide the license information of the level pack. For reference, the classic level pack is GPL3, the default and tutorial are CC0.

I think GPL3 would be best to match the software license. I'd also be OK with CC-SA or CC-By-SA.

I have just completed the levelset. It's pretty great. I have played the levels in the 0.5.1 Alpha.

My favourite level was Isopropanol, very creative! :-)
There are lots of cool and divserse ideas that this level set uses. It doesn't get boring. The hardest level was Prison Break, but once you know what you must do, it's doable. Definitely needs lots of planning ahead

Congratutions for making it into the main game. It was the right decision. MnMS needs more high-quality levels.

In the attachment you find my replays. You might find my solutions interesting. Recorded in 0.5.1 Alpha.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the replays! Looks like I still have a bit of tweaking to do, because you managed to solve some of them without using the shadow.

ETA: Pull request https://github.com/acmepjz/meandmyshadow/pull/42

Yep, Prison break is definitely the big final level, the levels after that are just some flavor fluff for smuggling in some Runrig references :P

There are changes in master for the following levels:

Box This Up
Shadow Switch
Pushover
Bridge over Troubled Waters
Obstacle course

It would be good to see if those can still be solved without using the shadow.

In the updated versions of these 5 levels, I managed to find a “0 recordings“ solution in Box This Up and Pushover.

Do you still have your replays? This would help me with the debugging.

I could reproduce the cheat in Box This Up and have fixed it by using a Shadow Box.

For Pushover, I guessed at the problem and added some spikes to block jumping to the other stack.
