Northern Resort shortcut ruined

Hi! Why did you destroy the shortcut in the Northern Resort in 0.10-rc1?

You know which one I mean, the one where you go behind the low wall by one of the cabin and then over the hill and you land just in front of an underpass where you have to be careful not to fall on the banana.

It was a great shortcut! Difficult to hit at speed and only marginally profitable. It was a gamble for the foolhardy!

Most the tracks received a lot more checklines recently to eliminate unintended shortcuts in order to prevent "cheating" in networked multiplayer. It is very possible that while doing this, a few shortcuts that did not offer major gains were also prevented. In the future, possibly more shortcuts or alternate routes could be added back, though this time in an intended and controlled fashion (whereas in the past most shortcuts were unintentional and thus hard to balance)

I am 100% in favor in removing shortcuts that feel “cheaty“ as they devalue the “real” track and makes the track seem poorly designed. This is especially more relevant when online multiplayer goes live.

I'm talking about one particular shortcut and I think it's a good one. This is where it used to be:

This is a video that shows the shortcut in the first lap as opposed to no shortcut in the second lap:

It saved me at most 3 seconds in this video when I managed to enter the shortcut skidding and avoid the banana at the end which is really hard to do.

I believe that is the kind of shortcut that should not be allowed. It looks fun, I won't deny that, but:
1) it cuts out a 90° turn and an entire U-turn corner and half of the straight stretch of track afterward. The U-turn is a major part of the track design.
2) it isn't likely to be driven through by accident
If I saw someone drive through there in a race and end up in front, I would feel cheated.

Oh, this is indeed a serious shortcut. tempAnon093 summed it up perfectly, it completely devalues a CORE section of the track and it certainly is “cheaty”. Track designers were 100% right in banning it.

BTW: LOL, I actually thought about the other snow track all the time. I thought you meant the corner at the top of the mountain at which you could “fly” over … My stupid brain …

But it's really hard to do it right and actually get any advantage form it at all. I think it's the same kind of shortcut as the one in Oliver's Math Class, except this one gives you even less overall advantage. I'd be in favor of making it harder, maybe putting a banana somewhere on top of the hill you have to cross but to me, it's the perfect shortcut: small advantage for a lot of effort.
