4. You get a startup boost if you start accelerating during "Set"
Playing SuperTuxKart on my Windows 10 Laptop, my mobile phone and on my Anroid TV :)

Would it be reasonable to suggest reducing the usefulness of skidding, at least on normal straight track? Skidding should be mainly done as a way of driving around significant corners, in my opinion.
I think making it take longer to get yellow boost would be a good idea.

Only use zipper when it is safe. Long straight lines are the best.
Don't use multiple zippers quickly in row, you'll waste them. Instead, wait until the speed boost wears off. An exception may be when you're about to reach the finish line.
Don't use zipper or nitro right before or after you drive on a “turbo arrow” on the floor. The boost will likely be wasted.

Always do short nitro boosts. Re-use the nitro when your speed goes down again. This helps to preserve nitro.

Try to avoid crashing into other karts, this just slows you down. Unless you want to throw a kart off the track. ;) In general, try to stay away from other karts unless you have a bubble gum. Every kart is a potential threat that is plotting to explode you.

Practice on each track and learn how to collect all goodies on the track.

If you're in first place with a solid lead, keep the bubble gum until you need it.

How to kill a parachute:
- Best: Use a bubble gum or swatter
- Meh: Use brakes until the parachute disappears. You lose speed, but the parachute goes away faster
- Worst: Continue driving normally. The parachute may take forever to go away
Understand that the parachute waits until your kart is below a certain speed.

How to kill a basket ball behind you:
. Best; Use a bubble gum when the basket ball approaches. Don't use the bubble gum when the basket ball is still far away, it might wear off too fast
- Meh: Shoot a backwards bowling ball or cake or plunger when the basket ball is close. Needs perfect aim and is hard to pull off.

BTW: Wrong subforum.

Oops, I've been doing it wrong the whole time. I've even tried using Nitro and zippers to counteract speed loss!
That should teach me to start looking at the source code!

Just found this page which has a good collection of guides from some of the fastest STK drivers. Very useful!
https://www.speedrun.com/stk/guides

One of the more helpful tips was that the kart classes (light, medium, heavy) matter a lot! Don't just have a favourite kart, have three favourites so that you can pick whichever best suits the track and game mode.
