red and green and blue and yellow blocks anyone?

red and green and blue and yellow blocks anyone?

Postby moochinook » 28 Oct 2016, 19:20

Here is a first try of some new block-elements.
Is a spritesheet that combines several block-elements of any use or do you guys prefer separate files?
As usual CC BY 4.0. Enjoy.

Ohh would be cool if anyone could give me a hint concerning the background size issue.

bon week-end

They don't look like they would fit in SuperTux...

So all that's left to do is make the rest fit again. :)

The feedback given at http://forum.freegamedev.net/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=7164&p=71303#p71303 applies to this as well.

In addition to what I said there: we don't need so much different objects, huge and small. We need stuff that's actually useful to us.

Don't piss people off who want to help.

We don't piss people off, we criticize. That's a *huge* difference. Yes, mt sometimes phrases things in a harsh way, but his criticism still applies.

Criticism is not a bad thing. It might even help sometimes. Still I'd propose a more positive and encouraging tone.
Who is "we" by the way?

I had a cup of coffee and a long walk. I am still pissed or if you like criticized as hell but what is it good for?
So I decided to keep generating content anyways. It's not important that the stuff i create makes it into the final game.
It's more about having a rich pool of elements to choose from when designing levels etc.
So on the long run this might also be of use for the "us"- and the "we"-people one day.

I might not share the same ideas/goals/style with everyone here but that will probably never be the case.

"We" is different members of the team. I am one, mteufel is another.

Well, mteufel crossed the line between criticism and telling people to go away.

Not pointing fingers or trying to appease or anger anyone, but some observations:
1. Learning to take criticism is harder than giving it. Understand that when someone points out something 'wrong' with a drawing, they aren't trying to tick you off or anything, they're trying to help. If someone says something that rubs you the wrong way and you can't let it go, give them the benefit of the doubt and assume there is a language barrier or that they cannot word things all eloquent like.
2. Moochinook, you have skill and we love to see you make contributions, but when something doesn't fit with the style of the game it is frustrating to us because we see it as 'wasted time/effort'; not because it is bad (they usually are good), but because it doesn't fit with current needs or artistic style.
Some people are like slinkies... not really good for anything, but you still can't help smiling when you shove them down the stairs.

I think it's mainly the borders that are off when you compare these to existing blocks. Since it's CC-licenced either way, you could contribute this to OpenGameArt if you haven't yet so even if it never makes it into SuperTux, someone who does have a use for it can find it easily.
