Stunt Rally in VR (OpenHMD)?

Postby Julius » 05 May 2016, 14:53

Seems like Ogre3D 1.9 (this is what SR uses, right?) is quite well supported for the OpenHMD Virtual Reality API (http://openhmd.net/).
Right now it does not yet support the recently released consumer head-sets, but most developer kits & Google Cardboard is supported. Judging from their Github branches ( https://github.com/OpenHMD/OpenHMD ) Occulus Rift and HTC Vive support is under active development as well. OSVR should also work more or less already as it is very similar to DK2.

Their demo app is based on Ogre3D, so I guess this could be taken as a template for SR? https://github.com/OpenHMD/OpenHMDDemo

So anyone with sufficient programming experience interested in making a VR fork of SR? Could be a great way to gather some new interest by developers for making SR even better than it is already ;)

Hey All,

I'm the developer of OpenHMDDemo and contributor to OpenHMD.
I am open to help out creating a basic implementation in Stunt Rally if I have a accompanying developer from Stunt Rally to help me out in the codebase.

OpenHMDDemo is quite clear and the OpenHMD.cpp and .h files should be copy pastable to the project, most of the viewport and update stuff is in the main.cpp

Would be fun to do!

Welcome to the forums!

That definitely sounds great, but sadly SR is more or less abandoned by the original developers and thus there isn't really anyone who could help you for now.

Maybe if you message the original main developer (CryHam on this forums) he would give you some hints, but most likely not much else.

Of course it is possible that once you start implementing it, more people would become interested in helping out *fingers crossed* :)
