Dungeon Temple and Portals

Dungeon Temple and Portals

Postby Keldaryth » 22 Jun 2010, 21:20

So I posted some ideas here.

I changed the name to Crystal Temple to get away from the word 'dungeon' as I think the story seems to be leaning away from creating a 'dungeon', although that option certainly exists. I pulled in the ideas I've posted here, and updated the backstory wiki to add another event.

Note that I deliberately have not specified what the mystic part of The Shattering Dark was because I think that could be an interesting thing for the single player campaign (or one of them at least) could explore.

I do not think we need to change the name from dungeon temple as it is created by the Corpars as a way for the overlords to get more power by becoming a demigod. The reason the other factions also has access to the technology is that they found it useful, and gave them more power, even given the compromises they would have to accept.

The issue though is whether the Corpars would use the term 'dungeon' to describe their style of living... that's something I doubt.

I think they should, as they live underground and are very "evil" seen from our real world view.

Again, I say that humans would call their lairs dungeons. :) They would call it something different. In any case, I'm almost certain that humans would come up with a nicer name for it :p

EDIT: That is, they would come up with a nicer name for the ones THEY use :p

Yes surely, but I think we should not use different terms for the same thing in the game as it only confuses the players.

Also when you try to get ideas for the incorporation of the dungeon temple and portals then remember that the game will not only take place underground, but also above ground, so up there the portal would also have to make sense, especially in relation to the humans and elves as they would not get new units from below the ground. This part makes it considerably harder to come up with good ideas :S

Hey guys, sorry for being away - randomly doing festival work in Sydney so I've been netless for a while and run off my feet.
In regards to 'different terms for the same thing', yes, that's why I tried to make the Crystal Temple come from the Kobolds, rather than from any one races' perception of any other race. The only unifying factor for all our factions is they all use Kobolds and they all 'use' the 'technology' the Kobolds have given them - even the Corpars.

I see no reason why the Crystal Temple can't exist above ground either, although I query how 'rooms' are going to be built above ground?

The dungeon temple does exists above ground. The Corpars have created it to gain more power, but all the other factions also see benefits of using the dungeon temple, which is why they use it.

Above ground rooms are not dug out, here you instead create the walls of a room, this costs you money, but it costs you nothing to dig out walls. It is the same below ground. This also makes sense since you do not need to build nearly as many walls above ground as you need to dig tunnels and rooms below ground.
