XFCE mouse kart

XFCE mouse kart

Postby JunglePenguin » 03 Aug 2013, 15:21

Hello all,

Here an XFCE mouse hovercraft kart I am working on. Just for fun and practice with Blender. Still have to do a good rig on the mouse and animate it. Also have to figure out how to get the prop rotating the right way.

Please let me know what you think of it.

Cute!

I don't like usage of original logos in STK though.

Any idea what the terms are for using the logo/character?

As a Xfce user I can only say: Awesome! :D

Can you upload an alpha/beta version into the addon repo? ;)

Thank you for the positive comments. I'm glad you all like it. :D

About the logos I agree, I'll change that.
I think the logo is GPL, but I have posted on the XFCE forum to ask permission, just to make sure.

Not yet, I will try that when I have some clarity about the use of the mouse. Else I have to change the character, but as a long time XFCE user myself, I would really like to keep this one.

Like the idea and the kart seems very nice, maybe I'll stop using Adium kart and start using XFCE's one :)

Great ! You should delete logos and maybe ask in Xfce forum to give a nickreal name to the character :)

Very cute :)

I would only suggest to add a bit more polygons in the ears, they are very visible and a bit too square. 10 more polygons is not going to kill the performance :)

Hello all,

Thanks again for all the feedback. I'm very happy with it.

A short update.
- Currently updating the textures of the kart.
- Checking rigging tutorials on blendercookie to get a good mouse rig.
- I send some e-mails for permission to use the mouse, but no reaction yet. It probably ended up in the spam box, deleted box or holiday backlog. So I probably have to try the Xfce mailing list next. Have to figure out which one to use, to not annoy them by posting in the wrong one. ;)

Thanks, the logo's will be deleted. When I have some contact with the Xfce guys I will ask if the has some sort of an official name.

Thanks, you're right. I've taken care of that. :)

I hope to be able to upload something end of next week. Will post it here too.

A BETA version has just been uploaded to the add-ons page. If the moderators don't find any not-allowed stuff, it should be available in a while for testing. Hope you like it. Ideas for improvement are always welcome.

Still to do:
- Get official permission to use the Xfce mouse. (Is now just called mouse)
- Win/Loose Animation
- Make a better rig for the mouse
- get the prop rotating correctly

Hello all,

The kart should be available for in-game download now. I did something wrong with the packaging, so it was not accepted at first. Sorry about that.

Now it's even a featured kart already. :)

betharatux1 {l Wrote}:So you still do not get his real name ?

No not yet. I think it does not have an official name. But I still have to ask the developers if it at least has an unofficial name that I can use. And thanks for your suggestion.

Enjoy.

Hi,

congratulations, we have decided to include your excellent kart in SuperTuxKart! It will be featured in the default package starting at version 0.8.1. Have you already started making a win-lose animation? That would be cool, although of course that is not strictly necessary

Hey all, we need suggestions for a name for this rodent. XFCE guys didn't seem very interested in naming their mascot anything so we'll just have to make something up as "XFCE mouse" is a rather lame name. ;)
(Also apparently it's not really a mouse, according to XFCE folks.)
Hey pal, I took an oath for justice! "In happy days or tightest tights..." or something like that.

Luna or Moreen :)

We also should remove a kart. Maybe elephant. He isn't textured.

+1 :!:

Elephpant have to go to add-on. I'm sure there will be people completely against removing him from current characters...

Elephpant doesn't seem to be the official mascot. According to the internets it's more of a Zend/Usergroup thingy. Also...
*Inserts some rant how one shouldn't make advertisements for the mess that PHP is.*

BTW: Nice mouse cart!
