Sara our new kart [final version]

Hello everybody :)

Supertuxkart needs a female character, so I have started a new kart (my first kart and my first character :heart: ) that will hopefully replace the old mozilla.
It will feature "princess" Sara the open game art's mascot.

The high poly version

She use a modified snowmobile as a kart. For he moment it's a regular kart (with invisible wheels) but maybe in the future we wil change the physics to support bike.

The low poly version and her kart.

Edit: Just a very small criticism: can you make her eyes be a bit more white (The white part of the eyes) that's all :)

Hopefully bikes in 8.2 with characters and karts/bike separated

As nice as she looks - and she looks really nice - a snow mobile? Seriously?

That would make sense if you had a snow track. It's going to look like nonsense the rest of the time. ;)

Will her hair ([\troll mode on] and dress [\troll mode off]) fly with speed? :D

for the snowmobile: I don't feel shocked, because we even have a mobile aquarium in game.
two (small) critics:
the front wheel looks a bit, uh... square. Just my opinion ;) I know you have to avoid too much polys...

For the track (la chenille), I think you can find a better texture, it looks like a wheel seen by the rear side.

Supertuxkart is not a realistic race game ^^. But We have already some track in the snow and it's planned to add physical difference between karts. So this one is maybe not fast but designed to go off road ;).

We have already a shader that can animate something like a flag, a textile,… but unfortunately it's only available for tracks.

the front wheel looks a bit, uh... square. Just my opinion ;) I know you have to avoid too much polys...

No you are right it's square (but square wheels exist :p). I'm going to change them.

It's the exact same texture :p (damn you are good observer). I try to reuse textures when they are good, it's less work for me and the team.

I have uploaded the kart so you can test it but remember it's still WIP

No we are trying to avoid cliché so no pink

Sara alone is strange, other karts is animals, perhaps add Sara's boyfriend or other boy kart.

I think she can be the only exception :). It's a different character, The princess of the kingdom ^^ and as I said in my first post she will replace Mozilla.

I think Mozilla is good but it's difficult to drive.

Elephant and Adiumy is very bad ! I prefer sara replace Elephant.... I'm a little disappointed.

Mozilla is an important Kart !

i think, that there are some karts that really need improvent, like mozilla, hexley, elephpant and adiumy

mozilla is too big and the long tail isn't good

the other karts could be a bit bigger, adiumy has bigger driving-problems, it's hard to drive

It's always the same debate :p. When we add something new we have:
30% of people that love the new thing
30% that prefer the old one
30% that want an option in the parameter to choose between the old and the new.
and 10% that say nothing because they are bored by the debate :p

I decided to replace mozilla because is texture is ugly, it has no baked shadow, is kart is old and is long tail is annoying when you drive.
Sure she can also replace elephpant which has the same problem.

But you can still play with mozilla if Sara is accepted we will put it into addons. Everybody that like Mozilla are also welcome to learn blender and to try to make a better kart.

I'm the first who will be happy to commit his creation (of course only if it's kart with the same quality as pidgin or suzanne).

I have also changed the scale of Sara. She isn't a giant anymore :).

Yes, I agree with you. For exemple, I like the Kart Gooey But this kart is in addons now and i don't understand because Elephant is ugly but very funny :) Hexley is not good now and Adiumy is very difficult to drive and not terrible kart.
For Mozilla, Beagle is same long Kart.

Sara is very good and i like the kart but she's different. In STK, Why not ?. Perhaps in the Future put a Robot Kart, the Extraterrestre Kart or magical Kart (As Goblin). For the moment all kart is animals.

:) I have absolutely no hesitation, I'm convinced, but in the core team auria isn't so I started a pool to have more opinions :).

For Sintle she is a beautiful character and we have already big buck bunny karts in addons, so why not.


Perhaps in the Future put a Robot Kart, the Extraterrestre Kart or magical Kart (As Goblin). For the moment all kart is animals.

Well it's not true to say every kart are animals. BSD daemon, nolok, the current Mozilla, Konqi and maybe wilber aren't animals. As I said I'm not against an extraterrestrial kart if it's an open source mascot. We have already some magical creatures (a dragon and a daemon).

I was also already thinking about having Sintel as a kart, and also experimented a bit, but the official Sintel models are very high-poly. Perhaps we could use the model from Sintel Game. If I find some time, I will experiment a bit more.
And, Sintel is not a software mascot really ;) so I think it would have to go to the add-ons.

I guess auria thinks there will be consistency problem but that's not a real problem imho just take a look at "Sonic and sega all stars transformed" the characters are really different and the game is really good. Moreover if we also add sintel (I hope :cool: ) there will be two human characters that's nice :)

EDIT2: I tested your kart that's really good :)

EDIT3: In fact we have to wait for kart/character to be separated to have more and more interesting character like the big rabbit in "Big buck bunny" that is a beautiful character but his kart is really bad. And then STK will rock so far

Wilber and Nolok is animals. BSD daemon is in addon. I say of principal STK.

Finally we have decided to include Sara in the game. I have uploaded the files in the media repository. Totoplus62 I think you can improve your texture. The others look like vector icon. We should keep the same ideas.
