SuperTuxKart 0.8 Alpha Release

Yes, I understand. I want to say that for the game, during the GP, you probably completed the subsea challenge (that is to say you win the subsea track in less than 2:30 for example) even if you was playing a GP challenge. So the game said you "You have completed the subsea challenge". If this is right, you normally play scotland after, and you probably have had "You have completed the GP challenge". That's why I asked you the previous questions.

I agree with Rahl43 and I remember something like this happening to me in one of the nightly builds. However it may be something different.

Hi!

I am having a problem with 0.8 alpha release. Two crucial keys don't work (left and back) so I cannot really race. I get the same problems if I reassign commands left and back to other keys. I've also removed old superfuxkart config files but it doesn't help.

I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with LXDE desktop if it helps.
Thanks for the help

I'm very pleased with this release. I'm not completely familiar with the skidding, but I surely think of it as an improvement. One thing that came up to my mind is difficulty of challenges. Some of the supposed easy ones were not so easy, and some of the challenges I needed more points were quite easy. The last bossrace was way too easy, even at expert, but I'm sure you know this already. I think we need more opinions on this.

Oh, I have to say that I loved the voiceacting :D

Do you mean they don't work at the same time? Or if they don't work alone are you pressing any other key (such as fire)? If so then Keyboards Are Evil my friend. Some key presses won't work at the same time. The best you can do is find some controls that work.

Hi Hero!

The keys don't work even if I press them seperately. (Only keys which cause the car to move left and break/back).
As I thought something might be wrong with the keys with the keyboard I've reassigned various other keys (mostly letters) to perform operations steer left and break/reverse and the situation doesn't change.
After deleting all configs and fiddling around a bit I managed to get to a point where acceleration key stops working and brake/reverse key starts to work.

I'm quite puzzled here.

Any hint would be welcome.

Is the keyboard completely plugged in?

Have you tested on other computers?

Do you have any other controller/gamepads plugged in? That is a problem I have had before.

You can also check in the options if you have unexpected gamepads. I think in one case some guy had his hard disk or some other piece of unrelated hardware being reported as an always-pressed gamepad by the system. If this is the case try disabling the bad gamepad

There are still strings that are marked as translatable but don't show up in the launchpad list of strings to translate, for example
"Type :" in data/gui/select_challenge.stkgui

Thanks Auria!
There was another device present indeed. Now the controls work.

In a GP, in the Follow the leader mode, the number of points won by each kart isn't correctly displayed at the end of each race. Points won are displayed only for the player and for karts in better positions on the current race (not for worse karts). However, new points are correctly added to the total of points.
If you don't understand very well what I want to say, just try to play a GP in Follow the leader mode and take care when the result screen of each race is displayed and you will understand.

PS: Where can I find screenshots taken with the in-game shortcut (AltGr+PrintScreen)? Thanks

Rahl43: I am creating a ticket regarding the follow-the-leader GP issue, thanks.

Regarding screenshots, on which OS? On unix systems, it's in /tmp

I don't like having to say this but you were right. I love the new skidding now I'm used to it! My only regrets about it is that I can't skid to get pick-ups like before. But maybe I may get able to do that too.

I am currently testing with the latest nightly build as I couldn't get the Alpha to work. Might even have to do only that from now on. But it's all-right. Means I have the latest (or kinda latest) build.

auria:I currently play on Windows.

I just replay some challenges. I think Subsea challenge is really to easy (in expert mode). I won it 3 times in about 3:04 3:12 3:16 and the required time is only 3:35

I'm an Ubuntu user and it brings up the screen-shot window asking us where to put it and what to name it. For me Ubuntu's superior. (Shame Windows is so popular.)

Thanks, I tweaked it to 3:20 for now, that should be more reasonable. It could be made even more difficult but since this is at the start of challenges I don't want to be too hard just yet :)

Hi all,

just a big thanks to all your testing. We have added many many tickets based on your feedback, and while some of them have to be postponed till 0.8.1 (or perhaps even later), they were really valuable.

So, we know what we have to do before a release!

Thanks!

Hi,

STK 0.7.3 for Windows 2000 has 3572 downloads. That's amazing! A lot of user are on Windows 2000. It's necessary to make a backport for Windows 2000.

And ...

... here is the backport of STK 0.8 alpha for Windows 2000 :)

supertuxkart-0.8-alpha-win2000.exe

and a YouTube video of the Win2000 version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMrOUDLcrfU

Unfortunately I can't upload to SourceForge. It didn't work :(

Some feedbacks regarding XR591:
-there are two points where IAs (in hard mode) are sometimes blocked during a few seconds. This probably comes from the driveline. See the two first screenshots. (I haven't taken screenshots in real situation, so I just simulate the facts, sorry)
-when an IA kart falls here (see screen 3), he is not rescued and arrives here (screen 4), so he has to run an important part of the track again.

Not sure if bug ou if it is part of the game in "Park of Penguin" challenge the new weapons only appear to be showing up to the AI and bouncing ball is coming up to often.

I found a bug (on win 7) nolok is now dropping green bubblegum and no more pink. I don't know if this has always been like this, i just noticed it now.

Capture2.PNG

and i think that this has been reported before, but: steering on keyboard is jerky. running into walls makes you go backwards into walls, and there was one more thing but I forgot it.

Some people are like slinkies... not really good for anything, but you still can't help smiling when you shove them down the stairs.

ah, i remember it now, karts and balls go through roofs a lot, and quite often after getting hit, you go through the floor after falling down and get rescued. really annoying.

What do you call "new weapons"? But weapons are definitely distributed evenly between human players and AIs, there is no cheating. Maybe if the AI is always ahead or behind of you, you might get this impression, since what you get depends somewhat on your position
