AROS Research Operating System (AROS - pronounced "AR-OS") is a free and open source implementation of the AmigaOS 3.1 APIs. Designed to be portable and flexible, ports are currently available for x86-based and PowerPC-based PCs in native and hosted flavors, with other architectures in development.

SuperTuxKart for AROS is on SourceForge :)

You need a data directory e.g. from the AmigaOS version ;)

What about starting to port 0.7 alpha to aros, AmigaOS? I don't use such OS'es, but I'm curious why are you porting only 0.6 version :)

I have 2 questions:
- Does that kitten have a name?
- Does she have a kart?

Hi there! I'm an Amiga and Aros user and I've been following this thread since it was started, which made me decide to sign up here but I hadn't posted until now. I've been trying to help with various game and software projects over the years and am very enthusiastic to help get Kitty and her Kart into SuperTuxKart (sorry, Sabrina is a skunk, Kitty is the cat). I felt I had to post soon before someone took up one of the ideas posted on Amiga.org which would have Kitty's kart covered in copyrighted logos which have nothing to do with Aros as an OS, such as the Commodore C=, the Amiga Boing Ball or the MorphOS Butterfly. Although Aros is an Amiga-like Operating System, those other logos belong to their respective owners which are commercial entities who are not producing open-source software. The developers of Aros have worked hard enough for it to stand alone and have its own identity, and we've had our mascot and colour established for many years now.

My friends and I have been working on concept drawings of Kitty and her Kart, which I will try to get scanned as soon as possible. This has been a concern of ours since before STK was even ported to Aros, and we've discussed it in detail on IRC together. I'm a big fan of Eric Schwartz for his Amiga animations and his webcomic Sabrina Online, and would hope to get approval from him on the final designs as he created the Kitty character for Aros.

I hope we can work together to get an awesome looking Kitty Kart into SuperTuxKart, if there's one thing the game is lacking it's more good female drivers to choose from!

Sorry for being my first post here - but just to brag about that AROS Kitty has now a kart!

The blender model (WIP stage):

And here's the final product:

How about that!? Maybe adding the model to the main tree?!

Good work! The car might not fit too well with the karts, but we'll see what our project leads think. :)

Very nice for being your first contribution nevertheless; keep 'em coming. ;)

It's nice that you like it - it was my nudge, but it's not my work - it's Tom Wright work's. He'll be popping here, because he plans to improve the character and model.
I've already suggested him to improve it in order to add to the core game: http://aros-exec.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=56451#forumpost56451...
I just did some convincing, and some PR to get it done! I'm just glad that it finally made it off the drawing table - and into a working model.

As for being a old car and not a kart... well I kinda feel that the car better suits the Kitty female sexy style (as 60's pin-up design). Although Saimon had a sketch of another type of vehicle (which never made past that):
http://aros-exec.org/uploads/newbb/985_4dea9a486afa0.jpg

And it feels kinda complicated and not very entangled with the character...

@Asciimonster:

This is kitty character (the AROS mascot) - which is definitely a black cat!

You're probably confusing her with the Sabrina character (also from the same author Eric Schwartz):
Image

She's a skunk alright - although she's not any OS, software mascot (at least officially)...

Just done some modifications to the Kitty icon (Aros mascot) for the selection and minimap gfx. This way it suits better the STK design style - more contour on the outside, character facing right, round dissolve on the bottom and more emphasis on the face...

Tom is busy right now, but I'm hoping he will pick up his 3D model again and improve it!

Nice improvements. Bring my kudos to the creator of the kart as well. :)

That's a kitty Pepe le Pew would fall for, if she had a white stripe down her back. ;)

I've managed to export the Kitty kart to ac3d format (for versions of STK 0.6x), the only thing that didn't quite made the grade was the AROS logo on the back of the kart... I've also changed the icon to suit the 3d render style of those versions.

Anyway I've already uploaded to AROS-Archives: http://archives.aros-exec.org/?function=showfile&file=game/driving/kitty0.621.zip

Here's the final result

By the way how does one submit the work for SuperTuxKart game (or add-ons or whatever)?

There aren't 0.7.X versions available for Amiga operating systems (AmigaOS 4.1.2 and AROS) ;)
