supertuxkart rc1 - bug reports

Postby mjminfo » 06 Apr 2011, 20:27

Hi Auria, I do not know if you want me to post it here or just in the tracker but here it goes;

in the users tab when you choose to create a new user and enter he's name, if you do it in a RTL language, it is shown to you in LTR but in letters of the RTL language.

rc1-users-new.jpg
RTL text is displayed LTR

In the same tab after creation of the said user, it's shown to you also with the RTL letters of the language but displayed in LTR.

while choosing your kart in multiplayers game, the same user name is properly showed in RTL with the letters of the RTL language !!!

LTR displayed good

when you start STK a message appears in the screen, well it's shown from the bottom to top. I'm using a RTL language and the text is displayed in LTR (english) as it is still not translated.

text is displayed from bottom to top

Hi,

mjminfo {l Wrote}:Hi Auria, I do not know if you want me to post it here or just in the tracker but here it goes;

either are fine, I don't care :)

So, if I understand correctly, STK displays

(Gimel) (Vav) (Resh) (Gimel)

but the correct order would be

(Gimel) (Resh) (Vav) (Gimel)

?
(I hope I have the letters right, trying to follow with Wikipedia ;) )
You confused me a bit by calling the second screenshot "LTR displayed good", I think you meant RTL and not LTR

good catch! I will see what I can do
EDIT: I opened a ticket for this one : https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/super ... ticket/147

I tested the 0.7.1RC1 on my macbook, and I got a pretty low fps... Surprisingly, on the same track, fps is good with 0.7.

0.7.1RC1 on scotland : fps = 10

0.7 on scotland : fps > 50

EDIT : I tried again later, the fps were OK... don't understand why , but it's better like this :)
EDIT2 : After some tests, it came out that when the Ktris counter reaches 40K (even with the smallest graphic config), fps goes down to <10. I ran 0.7 with 20 opponents, and the Ktris number reached 100 without any inconvenient fps decrease. So this was not a phantom problem :(

It is known that large numbers of karts cause important performance issues, but it's the first time I hear that it was better in 0.7 :( I can't think of anything that could have had such an impact. Do both have the same settings (animated karts, mainly)?

I tried in 800x600 with the lowest config possible (every animation deactivated) on 0.7.1RC1, it was a little better but not very playable when there was more than 60Ktris on Scotland. On other tracks, it was rather OK with 100Ktris, but not when I tried to activate animations or to increase the resolution.

In comparison, 0.7 can display 100Ktris without any problem in 1024x768 on Scotland, and with animations activated (when I tried the max res it began to be slow).

0.7 is definitely faster than 0.7.1RC...

Kinsu, do you use the prepackaged version of 0.7.1rc1 or did you compile it yourself?

I can confirm what Kinsu is observing - I have a feeling that Irrlicht was built in debug mode, which severely affects performance.

Auria {l Wrote}:Hi Jorge,

sorry to disappoint you , but it's not there yet :p

While adding a new user it displays in LTR while it should be RTL
8248-user-err.jpg
new user he (RTL, but displayed in LTR)

When new user is created it still displays in LTR while it should display in RTL
8248-user-err2.jpg
display of new user should be displayed in RTL not LTR

But when you choose the user in a multiplayer game the same new user is displayed properly in RTL
8248-user-err3.jpg
here the same new user that we created is displayed properly !

BTW is it normal that the Mozilla kart is missing the fairing in the front ?

Jorge

after trying it in a debug compilation, it seems that if you just go to another tab and then back to the users tab the text is then displayed ok
so it seems to be a refresh bug. Which explaions why on the kart selection screen it shows properly.

Hi again

I fixed the RTL issue with new names, can you test?

Text input is known to be non-working, but this would be difficult to fix.
And indeed you spotted a problem in the mozilla mesh, I'll check that (but that's minor)

Is this the linux version? It might be that Xeno didn't build a release version of irrlicht.

Xeno, any comments? Do build a release version of irrlicht, you have to use "NDEBUG=1 make" (from memory).

Cheers,

Yes, it's the Linux version. I use "make NDEBUG=1" but not sure if the order is of importance.

Also I edit the number of karts to 50 for fun.
STK Rocks!!!
