Wow, if there's no catch this is one of the greatest news in a long time, thanks for sharing this! Replacing non-free assets with CC0 ones is exactly what we should be doing more. For this relatively small effort there is suddenly one more great game to play.

I recognized one of my own CC0 sounds in the game

I'll see if I find some of mine as well :)

Yep, it is pretty suspicious they don't have a regular repo, their FAQ says the source is available in the "Tools section on Steam", but I haven't found it. The engine should be GPL, but maybe they can do stuff like rewrite the server as proprietary? It doesn't look like they care about freedom very much.

"Warsow is now Warfork..." - Wrong, Warsow is still Warsow
"Warsow is cool (and super hard to master) but does not have servers running....." - Wrong, there are alot of servers running Warsow
".....and no development ongoing." - Wrong, there is development ongoing.

This site really does its researches huh?

I've tried it briefly and while it's nice to see Warsow somewhat alive again the new sound effects they put in are just terribly unfitting. The branding is quite bad as well. So far it just seems like Warsow but slightly worse.

Yeah, that could have been worded better... it is a fork after all

Let's see how this all works out, but please don't drag the Warsow community drama over here too.

Ye, you are right......I dont know but I kind of felt triggered from the first sentences, cause for me there will always be only one Warsow. But the people around Warsow felt the need to split the pretty small comunity even more as there are two forks and the original Warsow being in development. Even though, Warfork does one thing better then Warsow: Catching new players. As you said, we will see how this all works out in the end.

/Drama end

;)

Well for me and a lot of other people there has never been any Warsow, since proprietary games are unplayable for those who value freedom. Forks happen only when there are problems, and an unplayable game is a huge problem, so the fork is very well justified.

You are jumping to conclusions... to my understanding (and please correct me if I am wrong) the driving force behind this fork really isn't primarily the idea to keep only Free/libre assets. That is rather a side effect of the people behind the fork not wanting to get into legal trouble with their steam release (some of the original devs are opposed to that).
There have been already great attempts in the Warsow community previously to liberate all the assets, but it's a big game and as seen with Warfork there were a lot of non-Free assets in it from long ago.

I'm a little suspicious. The link to the source code is broken, and there is no publicly available repository (like Git). Do they not do any version control?

The only download and info page seems to be only on Steam webpages. There's not even a dedicated website for this game?

That aside, I'm of course excited for a fork of Warsow, but this doesn't look very convincing to me atm …
