Hello everyone :)

We are polishing up supertuxkart 0.8.2 for the beta 2 and for the track Gran Paradiso Island I need a voice recording for the public address system of Sara Transcontinental Airport.
They will be played near the airport.

Script:
Announcement #1
[ding dong] (this will be added in audacity)
-Welcome to Sara Transcontinental Airport. For your safety please keep your belongings with you at all times

[please make a ~2 sec pause]

Announcement #2
[ding dong]
- The red zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only, there is no stopping in the white zone

[please make a ~2 sec pause]

Announcement #3
[ding dong]
- This is a public announcement, the previous one was wrong, there is no white zone
- The blue zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only.
- There is no stopping in the red zone.
- We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused

[please make a ~2 sec pause]

Announcement #4
[ding dong]
- This is the final boarding call for passengers Pidgin and Hexley booked on flight Oceanic Airline one - nine - two to Las Chozas. Please proceed to gate A immediately

[please make a ~2 sec pause]

Announcement #5
[ding dong]
I already told you there is NO white zone. Only a blue zone and a red zone

0) The license should be compatible with debian guideline
1) you need to be fluent in english and we need to clearly understand what you say
2) Just read them in this order and make a pause between each announcement. We can change the order later
3) No funky stuff, no special accent. It should be like a real public announce
4) Male and female voice are welcome :)
5) If we have more than one submission we can choose the best one or like in real PA, using different voices for each announces
If you want to try, please provide us the .wav so we can edit in audacity without loosing too much quality. Also don't add any effects, we just want the raw voice. Effects like distortion and reverberation will be done later in audacity

Thanks :). It's a great start however I do see minor issues

1) There are no pauses between announcements (it makes difficult to separate them)
2) It's difficult to understand the "Sara Trans Continental Airport" in the #1
3) In the #3 you say: the blue one, but the text was the blue zone
4) The flight number should be spelled with one digit at the time. Flight 192 become flight one - nine - two. I'm not sure but I think it's done like that in airport to be sure people understand the number without any mistake.

Otherwise it's cool :)

Here is another attempt: https://db.tt/1nYkwj95

1) I did my recording in Audacity, in separate parts. I can also just send the Audacity project file, then you don't have to split the four parts manually, since they are already split :)
2) I said this part more slowly now, is it better?
3) and 4) Done :)

@ WillemS it's okay for me :)

I have added one more announcement in the script but you don't have to re do them. If we have two different voice we can create something comical :).

Can you please upload the audacity project file it will be easier I think.

Thanks for your participation

Here is a ZIP archive containing the Audacity project file and the data files: https://db.tt/zCK4iuMe :)

Should the voice be comical? Or more like a real-life announcement in examples?
Should I maintain 2s space between phrases or, better, cut the chunk wav into phrase files?

The announcements are already comical, they are a reference to a movie (if someone spotted the reference) and being serious with the announcement make them (hopefully) comical).

Try this one (I prefer CC-BY-SA, but not mandatory). Where should I upload WAWs? I wonder if it would be fine for OGA?

Great job to WillemS and eugeneloza, I think samuncle has plenty of material now to get some nice voice acting in Gran Paradiso Island :-)

yep I have changed the title. Now it's enough I think (even if I'm a bit sad because we don't have a woman voice) anyway. We don't need more airport announcement ^^.

I could help with adding reverb effects to give the airport a sense of vastness, if you want.

EDIT: I did a quick example with eugeneloza's recording. I applied dynamic compression and added reverb through Audacity, and exported it at 16000Hz to give it that radio sound and to reduce the file size.

Something nice would be a ding dong between each announcement. With scripting we could just choose one randomly from the list and play it each ~5 sec

I like the ding dong sounds used in Rio's airports metro and buses. It's something like this:

When these messages are for fun, why not poke a little fun? I always find this so annoying when this happens in an airfield terminal and I CAN'T HEAR THE (...) MESSAGE :x .

ahaha the gibberish is sooo awesome :P I love it. We really need scripting to trig randomly one of the announcement each 10 sec.

For the ding dong I would say the #3 is maybe the most common.

I have made a quick test myself with all announcement (except the gibberish one because it wasn't uploaded when I made the test)

I made my own "ding dong" sound (in the same key as the track's background music) and added it to the beginning of each message with a 1.5 second gap. I added silence to the end of each message to let the reverb drag out, and then cut the audio off when the reverb reached around -70dB.

And here's the ding dong sound, since apparently I can only upload 5 attachments at a time. :x

Hmmm... what am I doing instead of sleeping? :? :? :?
Had an idea on lack of echo usually present at large open areas like railway stations & airports.

This echo is too much, I think. Usually, with at least semi-decent public address systems, the speakers are placed in such a way that there is not that much echo :)

Wow... really... today even deliberately have gone to work through the railway station and listened to the announcer... there is definately lots of reverb and almost no echo... strange, where did I get that idea? :) Maybe it was really too late in the night... :)
