Good defaults should avoid duplicates of this type.

No, keep them both and just give one a bit of a recolor, maybe rename her, give her brown or black hair and darker skin.

I think there are a few possible candidates for this man kart:
  • (less likely to happen due to trademark and/or copyright issues) The Shadowman from older versions of Red Hat's logo. The newest version of their logo is just the hat, which may not work by itself.
  • (more realistic in terms of licensing) One of the various male characters from the campaigns shipped with Battle for Wesnoth (https://www.wesnoth.org/). I don't know which male character is the best one to represent this project however, as I have mainly played through their tutorial so far.
Of the two suggestions I listed, I think it may be better to stick with the second option. Another FOSS game can get some marketing, although it may require making another 3D model from scratch, since Battle for Wesnoth sticks only to 2D art, not 3D models for its graphics.

Thanks, I know that button and could also manually enter the BBcode. However, it remains unclear how to put the website link to that image inside the BBcodes. It did not work.

Maybe the Wesnoth server is blocking it - some servers only allow hotlinking of images to whitelisted sited in order to prevent bandwidth leeching.

Keep them both! IMHO they're both very well designed and this way, online players can differentiate their Saras not only by color like any other character but also by vehicle and clothes. I think having two versions of a mascot in the game is an interesting quirk. I like things not being perfectly standardized and uniform.

After reading some more from https://wiki.wesnoth.org/Play, I discovered the following things that could help in selecting a male replacement character for one of the two Sara karts (it can become a minor annoyance to have both of them appear in the same race, especially if using close to 20 karts!):
  • Heir to the Throne - This is the original campaign, and probably the most played. It features Konrad, fighting to overturn the rule of the dark queen Asheviere. It is 25 scenarios, no more are planned, and is considered complete.
  • The tutorial features three characters from the above scenario: young prince Konrad, princess Li'sar, learning from the Elder Mage Delfador. The former two can be selected at start time.
Here are their main portraits as found in the tutorial:
  • Konrad (elvish version): Image
  • Li'sar: Image
  • Delfador (elvish version): Image

As I was following up to a suggestion to replace one of the two Sara karts with a male character, I will focus more on Konrad here, as he is also the main character in Heir to the Throne. I'm merely focusing on what has existed for the longest amount of time in Battle for Wesnoth, as more people are likely familiar with the older campaigns.
I'll finish up by posting some extra images that could be useful in designing a 3D model. These portraits are found only in Heir to the Throne:
  • Konrad (human version): Image
  • Delfador (human version): Image

Whether to use the human version or elvish version of Konrad, I'll let the community here decide.

I also don't think there is a need to remove one of the Saras, just because there are two of them. They are different interpretations of the character and both are good quality designs. That said, if we run out of room for more default karts, one of them might be the first to be replaced.

It's like STKs version of Mario and baby Mario ;)
